I actually think the Copper Hook has a great smell. But thereís no head, the color is not quite as golden as I would like to see out of an amber ale, and the taste is okay on immediate impact, but the taste itself is extremely lacking.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
There is a stark contrast difference between the initial flavour and the aftertaste of this fairly hoppy beer. Like the WinterHook, Iím not partial to itís flavour, but it is similar to the Pyramid SnowCap in that there are a lot of hard to place off-flavors roaming around in the glass, almost as if youíre not sure what is about to assault your tastebuds next. Definately a tasting experience, and I will try it again!

poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. 1/2" off white head, slightly cloudy deep yellow. I didnít see a copper color tone anywhere. Funny everybody says there are no hops but it is the only thing besides alcohol to smell. Nice feel in the mouth. Fast dissipating mild hop flavor with a finish that is like licking a aluminum spoon that was dipped in weak sugar water. The flavor is forgotten quickly. Drinkable I guess if tasting like beer is your metering unit. 5.8%apv could sneak up on you.

I enjoyed this ale on tap. It held a refreshing crisp citrus aroma. Ample wieght and head to the beer. It maintained a great balance between hops and maltiness. Not too hoppy but not too citrusy. It was delicious till the end.

from the sniff got a nice little funk like a very light Bellís Kalamazoo stout. The mouthfeel is thin. There ainít much to taste but whatís there is innocuous and smooth. Again, the funk gives a little life to this otherwise boring brew.

This is the worst "amber ale" Iíve tried so far. Soapy and metallic and entirely uninteresting. Iím going to give Redhook one more chance after trying this and Blackhook (which I liked better than this.)

Mixed 12-pack of bottles from grocery store. Definitely copper in color. Minimal aroma, "neutral". Taste is almost sweet with a light finish. Not my favorite Red Hook product.
