COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Redhook ESB Original Ale has an aroma consisting of toast, pine, and mild pineapple notes. It pours an hazy copper color with eighth inch head but no lasting lace. The flavor is toasty with hints of grapefruit and raisins. It begins with a bitter aftertaste that lessens as it warms. This beer has a creamy, medium mouthfeel with a very mild warming feeling as it goes down. Well balanced. This is a very good ESB, easy to drink, and is recommended!

Pours a medium pale amber orange color, nose is herbal and grainy, taste is weak on bitterness and grain is bland.

One of the better brews offered by Red Hook. The hops stick out as they do with most Red Hook beers. Has a nice finish with a nice foamy head.

Pours clear amber with a small soapy white head. Good lacing and retention. The aroma has smooth caramel malt, some fruitiness and light spicy hops. Medium crisp body with sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with tinny fruit, woody / spicy hops and light caramel malt. The finish is peppery and has cotton candy-like sweetness. Refreshing.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 My first taste of Redhook and it wasn’t bad at all. It has a nice finish with a pleasant aftertaste. Finally got to revisit this one, had to bump it up...diggin’ it.

I think its a great beer to have with a plate of hot wings. I think I’ll have one tonight for opening night of the football season.

22 oz bottle. Weak aroma and definitely not an extra special taste. Weirdly buttery finish and not particularly bitter at all. Will not have again.
