COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Bottled. Amber color with no head. Aroma is mild vegetable and peach. Hop fruits dominate the taste, but this beer is really not much to talk about.

Pours a copper to bronze color. Starts sweet but finishes dry. Strikes a decent balance on taste and palate making it a good summer time beer. Very drinkable ESB. Not outstanding but worth a six pack now and again.

I was too kind to this one. It should have been around a 3.5. Slightly bitter. Golden amber pour. Rated 11/29/2000

Bottle in Northfield, MA. Orange body with medium head. Nose of malts, cheeses and water. Taste is also malts and herbs. Some bitterness. Smooth. Okay.

Poured from bottle. Nose is almost all hops -- citrus, pine. Pours red-gold with a moussy head. Flavor is hoppy, but with an almost floral overtone and a pronounced grapefruit finish. It’s mostly clean, but there’s an odd earthy or mushroomy note on the close. Decent.

Pours a copper color. Cloudy. White head dissapates quickly. Smells of caramel malts, with some grassy hops. Tastes very nice. Good strong hop bite with rich caramel malts to balance it out. To me there are tiny hints of citrus and spice. This one will go high on my list. Very good and easy to drink.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear orange gold color, with bubbly white head. Aroma of cooked vegetables, slight cheese, malt, sweetened maybe by caramel, tap water. Taste is a mostly malt dominated blend, eggplant Parmesan with caramel, given a very light bitterness by hops, but it is all vegetable on the finish. Don’t take me wrong, this brew doesn’t taste sharply like vegetables, but that would be the way I characterize the malt blend. Medium bodied and pretty drinkable, nice smooth mouth feel, not bad.

Bottle. Deep golden brown. Aromas of good-quality malt and grain, cherry and slight burnt wood in the background. A surprisingly thick and rich palate. Candy-like flavour, again quite rich, with round molasses and mild melon towards the middle of the flavour cycle. Good, though not what I would consider to be a traditional ESB.
