COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Bottle; clear orange with almost absent beige head; aroma-caramel, citrus, grapefruit, pepper; taste-medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, bitter finish. I was expecting more.

12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear amber color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma and flavor is caramel malt, herbal hops, and esters. A decent beer, but I couldn’t drink more than a couple during a session.

This beer is very solid for the price. Golden orange with minimal head. The toasted flavor is well rounded with bitter undertones.

Bottle. This pours orange with little to no head at all. The smell has some bread and hay to it. Taste is pretty light with a mild hopness at the end. This is pretty average but nothing to pass up at your buddy’s house.

sailracer (190) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 30, 2011
Bottle. Pours a medium yellow with minimal head. Has a slightly hoppy aroma. There is a nice bitter bite on initial taste that mellows quickly and has a pleasant aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

rougeau13 (1065) - Texas, USA - NOV 25, 2011
Slightly hazy golden-amber with a tight cream colored head. Aroma of toast, toffee, and a bit of citrus. Taste is semi-sweet malt with a touch of fruit flavor and a very mild bitterness. Medium bodied. On the more enjoyable side of average.

JMerritt (1568) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - NOV 23, 2011
Amber in color with a small, bright white head. Sugary malt, maple and vanilla aroma with some moderate grains underneath. Mildly sour flavor, wheat and sorghum most dominant flavors. Not very good.

Malty_MacHops (85) - Eastanollee, Georgia, USA - NOV 12, 2011
The aroma is primarily citrusy hops. A couple of wiffs of toasty malt are present. The appearance is a semi-hazy deep gold to pale amber. The beer pours a white head which quickly disappears leaving only spotty lacing. The taste is unpleasant. While hop bitter dominates a metallic almost astringent taste is present. The body is medium to thin will minimal carbonation. Overall this is not a great beer.
