Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Bottle. 5.8%. Bottled on 16.08.13. Pours a cloudy light amber with an off-white/yellowish head. Okay lacing. Sweet, hoppy aroma with malt in the background. Feels a bit dusty. Light candy-like fruity note as it warms. Flavour is sweet and hoppy. Light rock candy note as it warms, along with a dusty/cardboard note. Bitter hop finish with a grainy alcohol note. Overall okay, but could do without the dusty/cardboard notes as well as the grainy/alcohol note. 01.08.14.

Good clean taste. Not exactly the hop character of an English bitter, but very drinkable. I visited the brewery and pub a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

Orange amber, clear, frothy fluffy white head that dissipates, some lacing
Aroma of US caramel toffee malts, quite sweet, not all that keen on the malt
Taste of caramel malts, soft toffee, dab of toasted malt, not much going on, touch of fruits, dull for abv
Palate - soft carb, medium body, quite sweet, some soft bitter hops. Finish as main flavour
Overall - Ordinary, found this a bit boring and dull...maybe bottle was too old

Fruity, sweet, plums. Nice amber colour, white head. A bit too sweet for beer. Plum wine carbonated...
