COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Overall Impression: One of those beers you see all over the place, you might call it a semi-micro, and it’s pretty solid especially given price/availability. It’s more malty then hoppy, bready, and a little spice. Light bitterness.

Hahahah... I had this on tap at a Red Robins somewhere in Henderson, NV. Yea, I’d never had it. It was one of two beers that were not miller, bud, coors. Nice clean, bright orange brew with a small white cap (due to the fact that my beer was poured to the rim). The aroma was surprisingly good with sweet orangy fruits with soft malts. The taste was middle of the road but 1000% drinkable. Tart with nice mid strength spice which is almost peppery. More spice than usual. Very spicy for an ESB me thinks. Soft and bready as well. Light-medium bodied, spicy throughout, finished with a nice solid but not deterring bitterness. Heavy carbonation. Yum yum yum. I was shocked how good this was.

Pours a brassy amber that’s full of tiny bubbles with a nice thick head and plenty of lacing. Really nice, fresh nose of baking bread and floral scents. Flavor is a fresh yummy balance of malt and hop with subliminal notes of a hard to pin down fruit. Apple or pear, perhaps. Understated hop finish with herbal notes.

Pours golden yellow. Whitish head, fades fast Not much there in the way of scent, really. I can’t really smell anything distinct...it smells like beer. Taste is fine. It goes down smooth. Not terribly complex and I can’t really figure out what makes it "extra special". Mouthfeel is actually surprisingly creamy. Very smooth. Overall, very meh. Not terrible, not spectacular. Probably wouldn’t buy it again for awhile unless I’m in a pinch.

Golden amber pour with a white head. Malty aroma. Nice malt flavor , little bitter. Slight hop taste. Sporatic lacing on the glass. It is a heavy beer as it seems to fill you up.

An old mainstay. Not so much these days, but I got some serious mileage from this back in the day. I’m not a huge ESB expert but I think most of them carry the same characteristic astringent hop bitterness against a relatively roasted malted background. Which is fine. ESBs, in general, aren’t my go-to style, but I liked this stuff enough in the day to give it a solid 3 rating. Good stuff that you can usually find at the supermarket or a 711, in a pinch.

12 oz. bottle. pours a thin head over a golden (SRM 10) clear body.....nose of mild hops and malts, not particularly characterful..... taste is similar. mouth feel is medium as is carbonation. Really a middle of the road ESB.
