COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Cask (gravity) @ Great British Beer Festival, GBBF 2008, Earls Court, London, England SW5.
Light unclear light to medium red amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramle, fruity, vanilla notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (070808)

Meh flavors I did pick up were kind of lacking. Would be a good summer beer for grilling. Metal soapy tinge in one bottle (and I clean my glasses with hot water thats it)?

Not that bitter of a beer. An alright beer to drink. Aroma is malty, caramel and oranges. Flavor is about the same. Kind of yeasty. Light bodied, kinda boring...

I kind of forgot about redhook, and the ESB more importantly. Although this lacks the wow factor ti used to have for me, it is truly and American icon and a very solid everyday beer. I feel that it is now a great value for what you get.

Mine poured a very cloudy copper with a head that bolted almost instantly. Nose was of malt, bakery, and caramel, but it also had notes of salt and chlorine pool water! What the fuck? Thick mouth feel, like melted caramel. Moderate bitterness. Decent after-taste lingered on the ol’ taste buds a good long time. The strangest ESB I’ve ever had, to tell you the truth.

Pours a copper color from the bottle with a trim white head and plenty of carbonation. Smells of skunky yeast and tastes of balanced malts, orange peel, and bitter hops. A tasty ESB.

Hazy copper with small fine head. I need to pull pretty hard to get much aroma but the smell is a relatively pleasant sweetness of light caramel malts. Little in the way of hops to round out the rather light beer. Dry finish doesn’t have enough clear hop range to really impress.

One of the best beers redhook has to offer, sweet taste, not too bitter, nice fruity/honey aroma, very nice to drink in quantity.
