COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Bottle. Deep amber beer with an off-white head. Aroma is malty with a bit of cheese. Flavor is hoppy, a bit sweet. Finish is herbal, bitter.

Not a huge fan of this ESB. It just had too watered down of a flavor to it to really come through as a good beer.

A decent, politically-correct "micro" that is easily drinkable, but nothing to write home about. Or just nothing to write about: This beer is boring... In other words, you could slap a Sam Adams label on it, and nobody would know the difference. I could see this being a hit among the hipster/metrosexual crowd because it looks more intelligent than a macro-domestic, yet is far from offending any delicate palates.

Very conventional in taste and finish. Pours a light amber color with a fast receding small head. Smooth, yet flat bitter inital taste, with hop type light bitter finish.

Pours amber into an English pint. White head quickly recedes leaving no lacing. Slight caramel aromas. Smooth and full with slight bitter metallic from front to back. Lasting bitter finish.

1/07/08 notes: bottle. Very indescript, a tiny bit bitter on the finish, but overall quite boring and altogether undesirable. OK, maybe at a bar with exclusively macro brews this wouldn’t be that bad, but c’mon, why would I be there in the first place?

~Pours a cloudy golden amber color with visible carbonation and small white head. ~Sweet malty aroma. Carmel and light citrusy hops. ~Flavor of malts and light hops. Some glass flavor from the bottle. Refreshing, but uninteresting. ~Medium to light feel. Quick and dry citrus finish. ~Well balanced brew. Could use some more flavor. Easy to drink and enjoyable. Not memorable. May buy again if its on sale again and the choices are slim.
