COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

medium gold, slightly off-white head. citrus smell, taste of controlled hops, malts, & fruit/orange sweetness. Did not strike me as exceptionally bitter. More like a medium or weakly hopped pale ale.

Had this beer on 6/2/1999. Color is a light golden with good carbonation and a nice head. Aroma is a faint crystal malt scent that reminds me of something like a Bud. Taste is light, clean, and refreshing. It starts with a light body that goes down smooth. Finish is a mild bitterness with a lightly sharp malt flavor. Overall I feel it’s a pretty good drinking brew but it doesn’t fit it’s style very well and I wouldn’t call it bitter.

Average, better than I expected. Some upfront hops over a fairly sweet, thin body. Slightly bitter crisp finish.

12oz bottle. pours clear copper with soapy white head. nose is a pretty sweet toffee. flavor is way too sweet for an esb, lots of caramel and some dark fruits. pretty buttery too. light body. no hop flavor. an esb should not be undrinkable and this is too sweet for me.

A rather average ESB, with a strong presence of grain. Slight bitterness from the citrusy hops.

Bomber from Bottle Barn; nose of grain, light caramel ,and a little apple esters; clear orange with a small beige head; flavor has a little caramel, some light bitterness, and orangy citrus. Would be a good average session brew!

UPDATED: APR 22, 2008 I have finally tried this micro-brewery icon and am neither impressed nor disappointed. It is nothing great, but it is a good, solid beer that improves during the drink and goes very well with food. It is light amber with almost no head at the start but this lasts and leaves a little weak lacing. The aroma is mild, hint of caramel and grain but mostly apple juice. The taste is malt, grain, apple juice, a hint of sweetness. At 1st it seems too bitter and drying on the toungue, but this goes away after the 1st couple sips, with all mellowing out and blending togther into a solid, drinkable beer with a fairly well rounded body. The flavour lasts and stays good over time and it has a grain aftertaste.
