Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Handy 12 fl. oz bottle. Light unclear golden to amber in the glass, small short living head. Low carbonated. Like honey and cherry on the nose. Starts malty with wild honey and cherries, light bitterness. A little bit flat on the tongue in the middle part. Light roast malty. Nice one.

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place. Thanks DSG. Cloudy amber with white head. Sweet, caramel aroma, sweet toffee, then light bitter undertones in the mouth, medium body, sweetish finish.

Bottle. Medium caramel nose, slightly metallic. Light copper color. Some good rich maltiness in initial / most of this dissipates fairly quickly / decent mild bitter tracks in finish. Medium body. Not too much to say about this one. Tastes a bit like an amped-up amber. Okay.

Grabbed flavors of salted caramel, apple cider vinegar, and noble hoppiness from the bottle. A well-rounded, neutral-tasting brew perfect for any holiday event.

Very nice amber color with decent head, a bit too sweet but still bitter enough, love the bottle design ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled 20SEP11 pours a hazed amber ale with a fleeting finger of off white foam. Smells of grain, metal and a hint of a frosted flakes. Tastes sweet and malty with the slightest hint of bitterness. I’m not really impressed with the flavor of this beer. I remember back when I first got into craft, and I thought this was a good beer, nowadays, this thin bodied, hi carbed sweet beer is mediocre for me. IMO an ESB should be only subtly sweet and have a pronounced, complimentary bittering on it that results in a feeling of slaked satisfaction. Serving type: bottle 01-19-2012

Tap at broadway in santa cruz, california. Clear amber red color, some white head. Citrus hoppy aroma. Malty medium body, citrus and hoppy. Quite basic.
