COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Nothing special or bitter about this beer. Very faint aroma of hops and malt. Amber color not much head. Mild taste a hint of hops, a hint of malt but nothing very distinctive. Slightly oily feel with no after taste.

Bottle. Clear pale body with medium to high head. Aroma is malty, with gentle caramel touches, very light fruity esters. Taste has medium to higher malty sweet profile, somehow grainy in the after taste, bitterness is light to medium, earthy. High drinkability. Body is full, low carbonation.

August 31st, 2012 - ESB’s aren’t my style of drinking, but a sophisticated, engaging ESB is still something worth trying, even if it is more of a gulping beer than a sipping beer. The ESB nestles nicely in this category, I took a terrible photo of it, but from what I can tell it’s a deep, hazy and murky rusty brown color, from which a mild aroma of pale malts and a slight metallic touch, likely lent by the hops, give this a nice and bitter engagement. The flavor is good too, though most remarkable is how quenching this beer feels. The interaction between the low alcohol content and palate make this a real thirst slaker, and the flavor is no slouch either. The taste is very plain, but there’s a good mango sweetness ornamenting the taste, and a long aftertaste featuring pine hops. This is engaging and affordable enough to be worth bringing to board game night.

Light amber brew with a sweet bread smell with hints of floral hops. Taste is caramel malts and balanced out nicely with the hops to make it a very chugable brew. Good beer that I will purchase again.

12oz bottle 12/02 (Old Notes)-Pours bronze with a decent head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and grains. Taste of the same with more sweetness. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and goes down smooth.

Bottle. Slightly toasted malts and burnt hop flavor. Thin body and medium duration. Boring though, not one I would get again.

A pretty good effort at a strong English style best bitter, great malt at first and then lovely hoppy flavours coming through as the beer warms up a little bit in the glass, a good around beer. (would be interesting to taste from a cask rather than keg)

Continuing my ESB streak of the past few days, this is my first sampling from RedHook brewing. I am impressed, fits the style well but also successfully branches out with the American hop varieties rather than the standard English hops. The appearance is a slightly paler and more golden brown color, good head and lacing. Aroma is a little weak, but features caramel maltiness with some brown sugar notes. Flavor features citrus fruit hop flavors paired with rich maltiness, mildly toasty. Just a little thin on the palate, but is still enjoyable. finishes clean and fresh, well done.
