COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2008 This will always hold a place in my heart as THE gateway beer for me. I couldn’t get over the toasty flavor and how it was a DARK beer! ADVENTUROUS! Unfortunately it’s a little bland and watery to me these days, but it’ll always remind me of those fun nights at the dorms, and that one time I spelled this shit all over my keyboard :X

Not bad. A nice hops presence balances out this beer. It’s nothing to write home about, but it is a solid ale.

Light amber color. Not much aroma very malty and very yeasty. Not a big fan.

Not bad at all. Doesn’t look like a wheat beer to me. Clear orange/copper, not much in the aroma, some bitterness. Decent ESB.

A Sim rate (draft at the 1020 in Kristin’s old ’hood): Wheaty aroma, but not much there at all. Looks like a wheat beer but tastes like lager. Quite bizarre. Malty flavour. Slight bitterness.

Pours a clear, deep amber-orange with about a finger of creamy, pitted, off-white head. The nose is pretty muted. I detect notes of biscuity, sweet malt and some earthy hops. Medium-bodied and slick but with tongue-coating carbonation and a tight bitter finish. Round bready malts and lightly bitter earthy hops with a fairly tight conclusion. Some bitterness and toasted maltiness lingers on the tongue, but it’s fairly subdued. A decent ESB, but it didn’t make me crave another.
