COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

For being an Extra Special Bitter, they sure have the bitter part down. This beer is almost too much hop wise and seems to be lacking any thing to balance it out. Nasty Copper aftertaste that stay with you way too long.

Poured a slightly cloudy amber without much of a head. Not much of an aroma and very weakly bitter. It was ok to drink but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have another.

Bottle. Looks like a dark Hefe. Very subtle smell; it smells like unsalted almonds (after this was pointed out - or rather - suggested to me). It seems like this is a beer with bitterness that wasn’t well-developed. Perhaps, this indicates I am not a huge fan of ESBs, or perhaps it just wasn’t very great. A little watery for me, would prefer to have some more flavor to it.

Honey colored with almost no head. Unique malty smell.... Almost almond like, or amaretto sweetness to it. Maybe toffee? Taste is light nuttiness, again maybe of almonds, is smooth, slightly bitter in the finish and fairly good overall. Easy drinking, with a decent amount of flavor, and I could definitely have more than 1 of these.

(Tap) Pours an amber color with a small white head. Muted malty aroma. Nicely balanced, with good caramel and some toffee notes. Crisp hops impart a dry aftertaste. Pretty basic, but not bad.

Filtered, copper-amber hue with a creamy off-white top. Slight malty and metallic. Full-bodies mouth feel, but diactol is too much.

Draft at my friend’s wedding in Seattle. Poura a very nice looking copper amber with an off white head. Malty and wet grain aroma. Medium bodied with a wet texture that is rather rich for the style. Flavor of toffee and caramel that is balanced by a subtle bitterness. Some faint citrus notes mid palate. Finish is slightly buttery, but not the diacetyl bomb that I was expecting. This was by far a better choice than Bud Light.

Poured a nice effervescent copper, smallish off-white head. Aroma balanced hops & malt, pine and some lemon, yeasty, earthy. Slightly creamy, bracingly bitter, medium-length finish. Nice session beer.
