COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

malty aroma with moderate hint of earthy American style hop. nice foamy head. little bit hazy with low carbonation. taste of fruit and a little caramel or toffee in the malt and not really bitter. bit of straw in the finish. not bad at all. finish stays a while as a tang in the back of you’re palate.

Nice strong ESB. Solid pour with roasted barely and malt aroma. nice head and carbonation. Follows traditional copper ale brewing. Nothing special but satisfying.

Amber pour with little head. Not much aroma . Slight sweet caramel with mild bitterness. Not quite enough carbonation. May have been a bad bottle but seemed a little flat.

Pours a nice, deep orangey gold with a thin off-white head. The aroma has some yeast, some toffee and caramel, and some mellow hops. The flavor is nicely balanced - caramel and sweet malts with a touch of roasted grain along with a nice presence of balancing hops. The finish has a nice, mellow bitterness with an aftertaste of hops and caramel. The mouthfeel is creamy, it is medium in body, and it has a decent zip of carbonation. Overall, this is a nice session beer.

This was one of the first microbrews I ever drank. I have since drifted away from ESBs, but this is generally an OK version of the type. Nothing special in the flavor, with some bitterness. A good beginner’s micro.
