Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Out of 12oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a mild head that fizzled quickly. Smells of faint sweet malt. Light to medium body and carbonation with mostly sweet malt and caramel notes. Average ESB.

A bottle 5,8%. Amber color with tiny white head. Aroma of floral, caramel, hops. Taste is medium sweet with a light bitter finish. It’s well balanced and easy to drink. A good one.

Glad I revisited this beer. Had it about 6 years ago and haven’t bothered to retry it. I was badge hunting on Untappd, so I picked up a bottle. Well, this is a pretty good beer. Very easy drinking, mild hop bite, along with soft carbonation and smooth maltiness. Orange/brown pour with thin whit head. This is my idea of a session beer.

Appearance- nice big foamy head that lasted a good bit. No lacing. Semi clear/hazy. Honey gold. Smell- clean, crisp. Strong malts up front. Moderately hoppy. Taste- malty, sweet up front. Pleasant bitterness on the back. Mouthfeel- light to medium body, creamy, smooth. Overall- very nice. Nothing too complex (as it’s designed). An easy drinker with good qualities, especially the taste given the reasonable (low) 5.8% ABV. Would have again and definitely recommend. Cheers!

Pint upstairs at Red Hook, Tyler’s 30th. Before the craft beer explosion, this was a go to beer for me. Pours medium brown with a beige head. Aroma is lemon citrus, multigrain cereal, floral. Taste follows. Lemon, caramel, multigrain cereal, mild floral hop. Easy drinking, sweet and malty, but with a high carbonation level for the style.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Toffee and caramel aromas present. Sweet on the palate with a touch of pepper a slightly dry finish. Oily mouthfeel with light carbonation.

DATE TASTED: April 23, 2015... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: a tough day on the JV diamond needs a Cavs win tonight... APPEARANCE: rather translucent copper body with slow bubbles; white head is swiftly evaporating and uneven but soapy; lacing is a haphazard occurrence... AROMA: Centennial and Willamette hops present an aromatic, bitter kick; immutable caramel malts provide a formidable one-two punch... PALATE: buttery smooth with a whisper of carbonation; a bitter finish of a medium-bodied, pleasantly drinkable ale ... TASTE: a nicely balanced mixture of bitter, almond-nutty, buttery base and softer aromatic hops--some bubblegum too; a tasty, mild, sessionable beer ... OVERALL: drinkable is the word--a pint worthy of an oaken bar and some pub fare; a good sports companion...

Pours a hazy amber with a very small white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and light hops. Taste is bitter with little to no hops-- kind of disappointing.
