COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Poured into a 12oz. glass. Colour is clear and light amber. Head is thin and didn’t retain well. Initially beer poured very foamy. Aroma is non existent, maybe slightly sweet and malty. Flavour is also non existent, maybe slightly sweet and malty, but I get no hops at all. Mouthfeel is carbonated, and medium bodied, with a sweet finish.

Light copper color with off white head that fades quickly. Aroma is very weak but is mostly sweet malt. Flavor is similar being very malty with very little hops. Overall this isn’t bad but it’s very plain and definitely nothing exciting.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark copper color with almost no head. The aroma is light fruits, citrus hops and wheat. The taste is prominently bitter, with a nice malt backbone. The finish is bitter and lingering. The mouthfeel is sharp and clingy. Overall, nice aroma and flavors, but poorly balanced.

This is what I would describe as an American style ESB. Has a lovely copper colour with a thinnish head. Aroma is packed with caramel, quite a sweet smelling beer this. Lots of caramel again on the palate with some slight sweetness in the finish. A nice beer, would be good on an autumn night with some good cheese.

Redhook ESB has a thin, off-white head, with a slight orange hue to it, and a clear, copper appearance, with fine suspended particles floating throughout. There is a nice amount of lacing left down the glass. Aroma is of citrus and floral hops, but this is mild. The taste is also hoppy, but is likewise on the mild side. Mouth-feel is moderate, and Redhook ESB finishes with no offensive taste notes. Overall, I quite enjoyed this ale and would highly recommend giving it a try. RJT
