COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

This beer is very solid for the price. Golden orange with minimal head. The toasted flavor is well rounded with bitter undertones.

Pours coppery. Smells of caramel and some vague earthy notes. Taste is some watery caramel. Not particularly bitter. Not the best example of the style.

Can poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a semi-cloudy copper with a minimal white head and light lacing. Has an aroma of copper and fruit. Decent flavor deep in both hop and malt, with a great bitterness and outstanding aftertaste. The second half is tasting even better as it warms up and sits out a bit. The granddaddy of craft inspires us all...

Bottle in IC Amsterdam-The Hague. Clear reddish orange/amber with thin white head. Sweet toasted malts, very malty, light caramel, sweet grain, light fruity notes, marmalade. Light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, bit gelly smooth, greasy, reminiscent of melted butter. Bit plain in taste but very pleasant feel and experience.

Bottle shared in the train thanks to sjogro. BVO WTF! Clear slight orange golden with small white head. Sweet caramel, orange peel, toffee, cane sugar, lots of sweet malts basically with soft citrus notes. Medium sweet with very light bitterness. Bit under medium bodied.

Ambrata velata con schiuma bianca compatta. Intensità olfattiva normale e finezza attraente. carbonatura normale e amaro moderato. Persistenza retrolfattiva sufficiente e corpo leggero.

From a can, nice pleasant bitter and caramel smell, a real presence of balance there. Taste is caramel and burnt sugar, and a nice, long, bitter taste that sits well with ya

ESB is not a desirable moniker in America. It’s just a sweet amber ale, but put ESB on a bottle and good luck getting it into the establishment, much less back out. So little surprise when I find this bottle I enjoy today was bottled on Feb, 24, 2014. It’s still excellent. Smells like candied bread. Just the right amount of sweetness, malt, and a tiny twinge of bitter hops. Plus it looks like a strong urination, which is, I understand, what beer should look like.

Originally rated on 8/23/08. Finally bought this one after months of seeing it at the store. RH ESB poured a amber colored body, and typical of english style brews there wasnt much in the way of carbonation or head. Aroma of hops, taste was a little sweet and bitter, with hints of citrus and malt.

Love this beer! By far the best of all the US macros. Hazy copper pour with lovely, fluffy white head. 5.8 abv hits the sweet spot between too little and too much. Character is quaffable and yet delicious. To borrow a line, tastes great and less filling! A sixer of Redhooks makes any Sunday afternoon - such as today - finer!
