Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Nice clear copper color with fading head. Seemed a bit thin, but I had an SN Pale Ale before it. I like the hop finish, but it could be a bit better. This is a very easy to drink beer. It has a great maltiness and slight alcoholic bite. Very enjoyable.

Bottle @ Royal Gourmetburger & Gin, Bergen. Pours a clear deep orange-hued coppery body with a small white head. Nose is red fruits, raisins, mild caramel, hints of peaches and grass. Taste is mild red fruits and raisins, berries, caramel and hints of honey melon and grains. Medium body and carbonation. Nice ESB on the fruity side of things.

Bottle into an ale glass. Pour is a honey amber. Aroma is on the weak side. Taste is clean and crisp. Finish is malt.

Somewhat disappointing. Too sweet to be an ESB. The only highlight is a relatively long and good aftertaste.

I used to think that Red Hook was really good beer about 25 years ago, my tastes have really changed since then. 12 oz. bottle, pours light amber/orange with a slight head that quickly evaporates, no lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, grain, slightly floral. Has some bread notes on the flavor, pretty aggressive bitterness but in the range for the style. Finish is quite bitter and dry. Highly carbonated, which accentuates the sharp bitterness. Seems to be a one trick pony, not for me.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours amberish with a white head. Taste bitter, malt, floral. I thought this was so so. I would skip this down the road. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a golden light brown colored body with a thin fizzy white head that died within ten seconds. No lacing was seen. Some carbonation was rising at a moderate pace. The smell was centered around the malt with the hops coming in slightly, some apple and cherry come out as well. The taste centered around the malts and once again the hops come in but take the background. Slight floral tones came out in the taste with a subtle bitter finish. The palate was about a medium. The carbonation was definitely felt, almost came out a bit harsh. It was mostly drinkable. Overall, well, I like the beer, just might have it again.

Birra piuttosto particolare, ottimamente bilanciata. Le note iniziali, leggere, di caramello si sposano alla perfezione con una media luppolatura rendendo questa birra piacevolmente beverina anche grazie al basso grado alcolico.
