COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Pours a really nice amber color. Nicely balanced beer, notes of fruit and honey. Easy to drink. Just delightful

Very smooth, nice taste. I am not normally a fan of English bitter, but this one is changing my mind. I was pleasantly surprised.

a hearty weekend beer, light enough to socially drink, but enough alcohol to do the trick.

it tastes a little bitter, but then, it’s supposed to. very smooth for a "bitter" beer, great strong flavor, not bad aftertast. had it out of a keg just the other day.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2003 (2Feb2003--draft) A test piece for the use of specialty malts! Small head, fine-bubbled, lacy, mostly receding. A very appealing deep reddish-amber in color. Unoffensive aroma of honey, with caramel/crystal malts. Sweet, malty flavor, medium/low bitterness, same wonderful specialty malt presence, much like Deschutes Jubelale. Great full mouthfeel, aided by the very persistent carbonation. Overall, a very fine effort that could benefit from a hair of additional bitterness. Interestingly, I was surpised how good the beer tasted on tap. My previous experiences with the bottled variety have been less inspiring.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2004 One of my favorite ESB's. I buy this by the keg for my draft system at home. Great anytime of day or year. This is also a good beer to introduce flavorful beer to BudMillCoors drinkers.

This beer is very solid for the price. Golden orange with minimal head. The toasted flavor is well rounded with bitter undertones.

A solid ale. Taste is wonderful and doesn’t linger. Just bitter enough to be a respectable English ale.
