COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

Bottle (oddly shaped). This is a nice bitter/pale ale. Slight toastiness to the malt, mixed variety of hops. I think i detect Willamettes more than the others, or maybe they’re just all balanced. But the malt is where it’s at. Perhaps a bit more carbonation than Is like for the style; I can’t help but expect it to be British, but it isn’t.

Amber pour w/ very small off white head and no lacing. Aroma is fruits - plum, raisin, cherry - underlying a heavier bready malt nose. Crisp carbonation and thin/med body. Caramel/biscuit malts give it a good backbone and some hop bitterness come in, but not much. Nothing exciting but it’s a decent session brew. Best let it warm slightly to draw out some malt character.

Red colour. Citric and grassy aroma. Medium bitterness only, and dissipates quickly. Probably a great beer enjoyed with grilled food, but not that interesting on its own.

Clear Copper Color, Good Head, No Lacing. First sip has some bitterness and hoppy finish, faint pine. After first sip it does not last and blends. Easy to drink and is ok. Otherwise average and forgettable.

Scrapersnbeer (977) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 14, 2013
Faint aroma - a touch of caramel and bread. Orange-copper color. It has an soft, almost sweet bitterness with okay hop presence. Medium body, easy drinker. Red Hook’s older recipes seem so moderate compared with new beers.

Bottle To Glass, pours nice transparent orange. Smells a bit on the yeaasty side but it is not that apparent in the taste. A Very thin beer and goes down easy

Clear orange with decent head. Bready aroma. Bread taste as well with the slightest bit of toffee that is immediately cut by the hops. Full mouthfeel and a slightly sweet finish.
