Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses. Available year round.

I had a different bottle than the one shown, much better to be honest. It is the standard now, but this was my first ESB, I wasnt exactly sure what to expect. It had a nice carmel aroma, and the appearance was nice and clear, the taste was smoth, ant the palate was had a medium body with a creamy texture.

Sample from bottle at Vecturamesse. Brown colour, Some caramel in aroma and flavour. The flavour is otherwise too bland for an ESB, with too moderate hops. Will re-rate when I get a full bottle.

Yes I was born in the town this beer came from. No it doesn’t really make it that good or anything.

If adequacy were the measure of a beer, this one would be perfect. It smells right, looks right, and tastes right. However, it isn’t special in any way. It doesn’t excite. It doesn’t impress. It just is a decent, drinkable beer.

Pours a nice golden amber with 2 finger head. Aroma of malt, and a bit of pine. Flavor matches aroma, low bitterness and sweet. Mouthfeel is a little thin. Kind of watery and flavor doesn’t linger.

355 ml bottle. Sunrise orange, quite clear, with a small off white head which dissipated almost immediately like a soda. On the nose soapy/old American hops, quite a bit of caramel, slightly earthy/woody, a hint of orange peel, light mint gum note in the background. Taste pretty much follow suite, moderately fruity, more sweet than bitter, slightly astringent. Caramel malts in the background. A bit too watery and bland in the finish. Average carbonation, light to medium body, slightly creamy texture. It seems more like an old and sweet malty IPA than a proper English bitter, but it’s not that bad overall.

Gravity at GBBF 2014. Poured amber, with no head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some herbal notes. Toffee sweetness in the flavour, with honey and grain. Finish was straw, mango and hay.
