2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Dough77 (820) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 19, 2005
Pour was a nice golden color, with little head. Nose and flavor were full of a funky bitter taste that just didnt hit the spot. Not a personal favorite, but will manage to get the rest of the 6pack down.

Not a very good IPA at all. Little complexity and a whole lot of bitterness. Lacks the fine aroma of good hops.

This was a pretty good IPA, lots of chracter, an almost smokey flavor with a tart aroma. Not reall what I think of when I think of an India Pale Ale, but pretty decent nonetheless. I think I would get this one again.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAR 26, 2005
12 oz bottle, snifter. Brassy...that’s about right as far as the hue goes. I really didn’t get much of a head from this pour at all. What I did get was white and fizzy and disappeared rather quickly. If it weren’t for the carbonation bubbling away, this would look rather lifeless. Basically nothing in the way of malt aroma. Maybe a little bit of toast. Hops are herbal...almost like...basil? The dominant aroma is like a green apple that’s been cut up and left out to brown. Bleh. Lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lighlty bitter flavor becomes a moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Fairly harsh astringency. The bottom line is: The acidity and astringency are overwhelming...my mouth is going numb...I’m stopping with this now.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2005 More like a mildly aggresive APA than an IPA, this hazy golden drink has a very short-lived, fizzy white head. The aroma is a pleasant balance between sweet caramel malts and orange and floral hop scents. The taste is more of the same, sweet caramel with mild hop bitterness. It ends on a slightly bitter note. Not bad, just not very exciting for an IPA.

Yellow fizzy ale with white head, which laced the glass nicely. Light malty aroma with barely any hops. Malty beer, almost like a lager or a Keith’s, very crisp, but without any of the expected hops. Oily mouthfeel. Bottle.CNY Brewfest Feb. 5 2005.
