A lighter, drier ale with a warm, brassy color and herbal aroma.

Had this at the brewery. Again its a decent beer, just not my favorite style. Kind of watery and maybe a tad too much carbonation. Wouldnt drink it again usually.

A rather dissapointing IPA. Poor head retension, rather one dimensional hop character, and poor malt balance make for a poor version of the style.

Pours out as a dark golden chill haze yellow with a very thin head of off-white bubbles that disappear as fast as they arrive leaving a thin ring and minimal lace. Smell is more like a Bavarian lager then an IPA, I get mostly toasted grains and malts, smallish sweet citrus with a touch of grassy/floral hops, not to mention that its faintly represented and kinda flat. This doesn't come across as an IPA or any other pale for that matter. Taste is quickly over and raw, seems to have an undercooked grainy malts that lend some toasty factions but mostly reminds more of grilled corn husks then anything. Hops are inadequate and hardly approachable in abundance, whats there seems earthy light and herbal and lingering late in the finish is some vitamin-like coating and flavor. Very dull, very drab, and almost undrinkable, had to brace myself towards every sip. No sir I didn't like it and didn't finish it either. I have one word for this, "Why"

Musty malt aroma with very mild hints of hops. I thought this was supposed to be an IPA? Pours clear red with little head. Very average and somewhat boring in character. Flavor was too mild and not very satisfying. Not what and IPA should be.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2005 ***RERATE*** Bottle purchased at WA brewery. It is so completely different from what I bought locally a year and a half ago, I had to rerate. Pours pale coppery color with a rush of bubbles that leave no head. Translucent motes of suspended fluff. Mild peachy and minty aroma, sweet, piney, and a hint of cookiedough malt. Flavor is bland; fruity, citric, and breadcrust. Lacks any sort of depth. Dry and marginally bitter. Palate is weak, watery and anemic. Woody, sappy aftertaste. Completely unexciting and unworthy. This tastes more like a macro shit beer than an IPA. What the hell happened, Redhook?? *****Original rating 2/10/04 follows: numbers were 6 5 6 3 12 3.2. *** Pours brilliant copper with absolute prismatic clarity. Flocks of bubbles migrate steadily upward toward a finely-beaded beige head. The foam leaves crazed lacing as it dimishes and holds steady at an eighth-inch. Aromas of toasted malts and citric grapefruit or orange zest; also a juicy nectarine or papaya element. Perfumey. Flavor is more of the same with a splash of tart, limey hop and burnt caramel undertones. Faint sulphury lager character. Malt flavors struggle to break through but get lost, which is at odds with the smooth, medium-full mouthfeel. Finish is dry and resiny; tart aftertaste. Initially nicely-balanced bitterness fades somehat near the end of the glass. The Pacific/Northwest hop character pretty much defines this as an APA.

Golden color with little or no head. The taste bitter. The traditional flowerish hoppy flavors is missing though which makes the bitterness slight ugly on the palate.

Bland. Lacks the flavor of fresh ingredients. Tastes like a mass produced beer with artificial "IPA Flavoring" added. Bypass. Not worth the rusty red hook at the bottom of the keg.

Not impressed at all... From the tap it tasted like old English 800 and very malty with zero hops.
