verymerrymonk (255), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2007 Clear copper body with a short, rapidly dissipating white head. Sweet, then moderately bitter and dry in finish. Drinkable but no outstanding qualities. llcooldave (309), San Antonio, Texas, USA Nov 16, 2007 Orange copper in color with a soapy looking head. Definitely has a smoky malt aroma and a medicinal bitter aftertaste. It starts good but finishes bitter. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Nov 10, 2007 Bottle. Nice aroma of malted strawberry with just a touch of crisp, cool autumn breeze. Nice amber body with a small head. Hoppy with a fruity malt finish; bits of roasted nuts in their as well. Leaves a lingering bitterness on the tongue that never offends. Average mouthfeel. A decent- but not spectacular- beer. Ughsmash (3983), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Nov 8, 2007 Bottled on 7/18/07. Poured an ugly, cloudy medium orange with very little carbonation and only the faintest dusting of head. My first impression from the aroma was "American wheat ale".. had that sweetened-up-to-make-it-tolerable/intriguing/palatable character to it.. some of the sweetness appeared berry-related.. I just didn’t dig it. The flavor was a little more agreeable.. lightly-toasted berries and caramel at the core with a mild grassy/herbal hop presence.. more berries on the finish, which made it a bit hard to choke down.. decent mild smoky accents throughout. Lighter-bodied with lower carbonation on the palate.. man.. I just didn’t care for this. Hammster (187), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Nov 4, 2007 Bottle. Poured fire orange with a very small off white head. Aroma was sweet roasted malts. Taste is very well balanced. Malts are pleasant and not too sweet. There’s also a good hop note. Finish is wonderful--malty sweetness really comes through. A good amber. Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2007 Wasn’t sure this was an amber ale when i saw it, but oh well. Very malty character in the nose and flavor, not much hops to be found. reddish thin hue with a thin watery taste. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Oct 29, 2007 Medium orange, nice head, biscuit accented aroma. Flavor concentrates on biscuit malts, and a faint hint of floral and earthy hops emerge before fading into a slightly roasty malt finish. Not bad. Always a shame that Redhook had to retire their best beer. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Oct 28, 2007 Pours a beautiful clear brown-orange with a nice thick head. Aroma is mostly malty, with a hint of spice and a fairly strong, but not alcohol, nip to it. Flavor is rich and zingy; both hops and malt are present, with hints of spices and a whisper of fruit. This ale goes down smooth and crisp but still has an edge to it.
