Pours a clear deep amber, not much head. aroma is hops and some fruity malt. flavor is nice, malty up front, but a good finish, sorta hoppy. this is actually pretty decent. yobdoog (1431), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Ruby red amber color fluffy head. Some malt ans spice on aroma but very mild. Sweet flavor of caramel and pale malts. Light bitterness some spice, nutmeg, cinnamin. Very faint. If I didn’t read the description I would never know it incorporates smoked malt either. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Bottle. Dark amber color that borders on orange and copper. Head is smallish, especially after a couple of minutes. Aromas are of bread and apple juice. Flavor is more of the same with a slight bit of a peat flavoring that adds a little bite before disappearing back into the apple juice concentrate sweetness that dominates most of the opening palate and the aftertaste. Ar, Red Hook, will you ever captivate my interest? mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Pretty much just a light smoky malt. Some caramel and toffee. Slight crisp hoppy bite in the back. Thin and overcarbonated. If not for the slick smokiness, this beer would be pretty damn boring, but that saves it. Indra (2026), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 11, 2007 12oz. bottle. Sweet, malty aroma, nutty and lightly floral with notes of caramel, faint citrus and a light apple fruitiness. Clear medium copper color with a lasting, fine head. Flavor is primarily sweet and malty, more brown sugar than caramel here really, and seeing a brief influx of spicy hop flavor and metallic bitterness enter late. Lingering combination of the sweet, lightly toasty malts, very light citrus and almost astringent but faint hop bitterness for the finish. Body is light-medium, mouthfeel is a bit rough. I only bought a single bottle of this, I think that was a good call. Certainly not terrible, just boring in that Redhook way. Smoked malt? That’s hard to believe. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Had this one bottled in Geneva, Illinois. I am starting to really come down on the amber ale style, and this one is no exception. Beautiful red color but the flavor is muddy and unimaginative, nuanced but with no real payoff. Lacks strong maltiness or bitterness. Weak finish. Pretty bland. radagast83 (1289), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 6, 2007 Bottle. I was a little disapointed with this brew. I’m not a huge fan of Ambers, but when they’re done right, I love them. This one was just a little too toasted malty for me, with not enough hop balance in my mind. Bittersweet finish, not as refreshing as I would have liked. djd07 (733), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 5, 2007 Bottle. Pours a gorgeous amber color with a medium off white head. The aroma is a roasted malt and light hops. Nice lacing on this one. The taste is a nut malt with a caramel finish. A decent amber ale but nothing too special.
