Aroma of gingerbread and spice. Initial flavor of sweet malt and wheat. Flavor ends dry and clean. Light to medium body, moderate lacing, light on alcohol, and short on aftertaste. Overall a decent beer and worth a shot since it should be available just about everywhere. hamrech (37), Carbondale, Illinois, USA

I’ve always had a soft spot for Red Hook, they are simple, unpretentious brews that are never fantastic, but always more than drinkable. This one fit right in with that, and was better than most. Fairly similar to the ESB, but better. It was both darker in color and lighter/crisper in flavor than I expected. Not a complicated beer, but I liked it and would drink again in a heartbeat. lithy (1860), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Clear reddish copper color with a finger of puffy creamy off white head. Slightly metallic amber malt aromas. Slight piney hoppiness and caramel with a cool metallic feel and a bit of nuttiness with enough hops to balance. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2008 Pours a reddish amber color with about a 1 finger white head. Aroma is great...sweet, caramel, and roasted malts. Taste is a step down from the aroma, with the same qualities on a lesser scale. Taste is a bit watered down compared to the smell, but still pretty good. Pretty good seasonal ale. PhillyBeer2112 (2097), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2006 Pours a reddish amber, and is basically your standard "crystal malt + hops" concoction. Hops show some grass and citrus in the nose, mostly citrus in the flavor. Crystal malts are there, clean and sweet. Hops are fairly mild in presence. A drinkable, clean beer. Could be a fair session beer.

Clean, fresh aromatic medley of hops, medium malts, and wheat. Distinctly minty hop flavor with a more viscous body than I expected and having warming notes. An amber with a twist. wilkie (1193), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2006 Draught with title "Late Harvest" at the Portsmouth brewery. Amber brown, medium beige head with some lacing. Aroma is mildly bready/grainy with some caramel. Flavor similar with a hop burst in the middle. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Fairly decent beer. guzzler67 (1289), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2008 Hazy bronze appearance with an average size head and very good lacing. Earthy, caramel malt aroma. Taste is fairly sweet, but not cloying. Toasted malts up front with enough Saaz hops to keep things in balance and add a slightly spicy dimension. Dry, moderately bitter, medium length finish. Matches up well to your basic domestic Octoberfest.
