The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

Strong hoppy flavor, good lingering after taste though. Second one was definitely better.

Very bitter, paper napkin, astringent. Bottom line...worst IPA I have ever had. And also the only Red Hook beer I have ever absolutely disliked. Must have been an apprentice’s project.

Cask, GBBF 2007. Cloudy gold, no head. Some floral hop and yeast in the nose of this. Mouth is hoppy floral and a touch of sweetness. Finishes bittersweet.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - GBBF2007. A hazy, orange coloured beer. The aroma is lovely and fresh citrus hoppiness. A little sweetness also. The taste has nice hops and a good malt backbone. Tasty.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at GBBF. Hazy dark blonde colour. Marzipan and hops in the aroma. Very quaffable hoppy, grassy flavour with bags of tropical fruit. Lovely clean mouthfeel. One of the best US casks at GBBF I thought.

Bottle says 6.5. Pale amber with a head the is thick and pretty nice. Aroma is floral and piney hops. Pretty hoppy, with minimal bitterness. Not too much fruity taste alas. Medium body etc... Pretty good IPA.

Itcame recommended by a friend who apparently hasn’t had any really good beer in his lifetime, poor lad. It was weakish, watery, and would suffice if the bomb hit tomorrow and wiped out the world’s supply of all other beers.

Bottled. The body is a slightly hazy gold with a slight off white head. Aroma has lots of classic grapefruit and some pine boards. There is also a rich cherry note. Good nose, the best part of the beer. Decent grapefruit flavor with with a thin and slick body. There is also some bread crust with some dirt in the finish. I agree with others that this is closer to an APA than IPA. This is decent, but there are lots of APA’s I would get before this watery brew.

Eh, a rather weak IPA. I was disappointed in this one. I was looking for a bit more hops. Overall this wasnt a drain pour, but nothing i want to drink again.

Pours a medium sized white head, retention is fair, lacing is good, sticky, stringy and lasting. Clear gold, light coppery color. Nose is lightly fruity, peaches, maybe a hint of apricot with some piney notes. Body is lightly medium with a nice carbonation level. Light fruity flavors, citrus, notes of honey and some light malts, more light piney flavors, light grassiness and a touch of bubble gum, malts are faintly sweet. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly fruity. Hard to believe its a 6.5%er, pretty damn easy drinkin, though more of an APA than an IPA, flavor wise. Nice intro micro.
