COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

Had on draft at a local bar. Not a big fan of IPAís but this one was pretty decent. It was a nice hot day out and it sure hit the spot. Not a style I favor too much yet.

Bottle. Pours average amber and thin, but itís nice to look at. Smells like candied apricot and sugary pine with bits of orange. Tastes like metallic grapefruit with copper-coated orange. Average mouthfeel. Bizarre tasting beer, to say the least.

Pours a four finger white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Light clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Flavor actually fairly balanced for an IPA some sweetness with very slight bitter finish. $1.50 for a 12oz bottle from Capital Convenience Concord, NH.

A light / medium copper color with a small white head. Aroma is pretty mild. The first 5 seconds after the pour is the only time I could really smell anything. The basic light hops, malts, and citrus. The flavor brings out some pine and bitterness but other than that it is pretty bland. Iím not saying itís bad because it isnít. Just very basic.

Decent beer, not a lot of flavor, though. Plenty of carbonation, maybe overwhelming, only a small hoppy aftertaste. Not my favorite IPA. Perhaps the west coast version is better.

The 12 ounce bottle poured an apricot colored beverage with a small dense white head that was mostly diminishing but it left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was fairly well balanced for the style with hops obviously dominating. The hops aroma seemed to be floral and grassy, like a Cascade hop. Not very complex. The body was medium with average carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor starts out lightly bitter with the bitterness growing a bit as the taste matures on the palate. The finish is medium in length.

ya, not a bad beer, just weird that they would release this when they already have a decent IPA on the market. Itís got some depth, but there doesnít seem to be a great hop blend, only some cheap tasting hops that remind me of a home brew. I like IPAs, this one doesnít stand out to me.

Bottle. Pours light copper with thick off-white head. Resinous, piney and citrus hop aroma with toasty malt background. Good bitter bite upfront with piney hop flavors. Followed up by round caramel malt flavor. Mouthfeel is full and a little oily.

At 6.5%, thereís obviously a lot of raw material here - theyíre not trying to get away cheaply. Itís surprising, then, that such a big brewery canít do more with the style. Tastes remarkably like the first IPA I ever home brewed. Bland, slightly sweet maltiness a bit overbalanced by hops.

This is lighter than expected being on the darker end of gold (or a light amber). Nice big foamy white head. The aroma starts off with very fresh leafy hops, but that soon fades to pretty much not noticable for some reason. For real, I thought it smelled hoppy on the first sniff, but after a couple of sips I didnít notice much at all. And up comes something that I really thought would have been from an adjunct lager. Kind of smells like corn, actually. A bit of heat in the back. I really thought that this was a good beer on first sip and then it just turned downhill.
