COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

Milder on the hops than its regular red hook bretheren. Itís an OK overall balance.

Bottle from Caponeís. Turbid deep golden straw colored with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of florals, hopcitrus, some pale malt. tastes dry, floral, spicy, peppery, and hopcitric, getting almost saisony as it warms, with more florals and spicy notes showing up. Not bad, and certainly underrated here.

Tap at Old Chicago Uptown. You know, I was actually pleasantly surprised with this one. Not hoppy enough for my tastes but really quite pleasant. Only mildly bitter with some nice apricot and tangerine notes. Refreshing IPA for sure. Excellent intro IPA.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear light gold, pretty decent white head with little lace. Hoppy nose that is pine and spice based, but little else in the aroma. Clean, light mouthfeel, light to medium body and medium carbonation. Flavor is lightly bitter with a dry finish, but not much in the way of malt based flavors. Not a bad IPA as a thirst quencher, but not in the same league as the really great IPAís.

This is not the best IPA that I have had, but would drink it again. Not as flowery as other west coast examples.

Thereís some promise to the nose of this deep golden ale. It smells of of toffee covered by pine and floral hops. Unfortunately, itís somewhat watery and dull in the flavor department. Sweet malt, pine, pepper. Sounds good, but itís balanced more like a watery APA. Disappointing.

Rye bread(the kind with the caraway seeds) and pine. Apricot. Itís also a little weak. It hits all the proportions and balance right, itís just a litlle weak. For an IPA, itís somewhat unspectacular.

Another slight disappointment from Redhook. It poured a hazy orange-amber hue with no head. Aroma is slightly pine-like with a strange malt base. Flavor was pretty much the same with a watery finish.

Hoppy nose is restrained yet somewhat complex and unusual. Starts melony with cantaloupe and casaba, perhaps a touch of peaches and solvent. A green apple? Maybe a rye bread type malt is present, but I wouldnít expect it from the golden color, with a thin layer of clean white foam. Flavor starts hoppy (vaguely resiny, somewhat floral like noble hops), but feels empty, again a lack of malt. Finish is mildly bitter, and pretty vacant.

22oz draft poured into a mug from a shitty bar in Andover. I drank this one while talking to the guy across the bar about the deer that he hit with his motorcycle on RT-93 south! This atrocity tasted like a Budweiser with too much metallic hop-like stink juice. The aftertaste was nauseating and I could only drink half of the mug. I can not believe that this brewery markets this as their IPA. For some reason I thought that they were better than the jerks who want to tap into the "trendy micro market" and make a quick dollar. Nasty
