COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

Not a fan of the aroma, pine & earthy with burnt hops.. Obvious pine flavor with citrusy notes. Little malt, light body, little/no head, light carbonation. Hop flavor seems odd. This one has potential, but I prefer their regular IPA.

surprised ratings seem so low for this...pours light amber with medium-sized white head..aroma of caramel malt and pine hops..flavor is heavy in pine and citrus, little malt, and a bitter, nutty finish...not bad and quite quaffable

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2007 This is the first rating that I have actually input directly from my cell phone. Ain’t technology wonderful? Fair appearance, clean label, golden brew with a cumulous whitish head. Caramel, hop and lightly fishy water aroma. Citric hop, buttery, well-brewed, well-bittered, light sweetness, tangy. Medium, to medium-heavy mouth, grassy sweet finish.

Skunked hops and some slight malt made up the aroma.Pours a light copper with a thin off white head.At best the flavor is very light hops.Very thin mouthfeel with a skunked finish.

Placed conveniently next to the hammer contest at the Virginia Beer Festival. Soft amber pour. Small white head. Nose is pine and citrus. Soft malts. Hits the tongue with more pine and softer citrus peel. Soft caramel and toasted maltiness too. Body is light-medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes with more pine and citrus, and softer malts. Typical.

The aroma has citrus and pine hops as well as plenty of caramel malt. The appearance is gold with an amber hue. The flavor is well hopped with both the citrus and pine as well as malt to balance. The malt however is more biscuit like than caramel like. Still there is enough sweetness to balance the bitterness. The palate is smooth but a tad thin and the finish nutty and piny. Overall a good American style IPA. Nice Beer!

poured a real golden hue. smell of pure hops, taste of light malts yet piney hops. good enough to finish.

Pours a crystal clear color slightly darker than a macro. Almost no head at all. I can smell malt and cascade hops. Decent hop flavor, some bitterness, some malt but a watery mouthfeel. If you took a real decent IPA and divided it by 2 or 3 you would get this. Nothing feels out out of balance or wrong it just doesn’t have the punch of a good IPA. Decent for the money I guess.

pours golden yellow. nice lacing down the glass. nice hop aroma. ipa bitterness, but needs a bit more backbone. maybe some brittish base malt would help. good gateway for ipa beginners.

Bottle. Aroma is hops, caramel, and malts. Pours a dark clear golden color. The hop amount is pretty low, which produces a pretty mild IPA.
