Originally rated on 8/22/08. On my third as i type, I was pleasantly surprised by longhammer, partially because my expectations were not too high to begin with. It pours a dark golden yellow hue. Decent white cap disappated to a thin head, yet it leaves good lacing. Aroma of some citrus, but mostly floral, taste was similar with a lasting bitterness, and a very slight aftertaste of berries. Overall it is a pretty good IPA, especially for those new to the style, but for those seeking that super hop blast this will be an average brew.

bottle @ Fresh Thyme / Newport KY --- Clear medium/light amber color, long-lasting off-white head, lace cobwebs. Taste is malt that allows solid hops to ride on its back through a medium finish. Pretty straightforward, but it works well enough.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Signal Variety. Aroma is floral, fruity, citrus and hint of pine over malty backbone. Appearance is hazy, pale greenish yellow with minimal sparkle, 1/2 finger-width head with poor retention and mild foamy ring of lacing. Taste is strong citrus and fruit balanced early sweet with late bitter. Palate is light-to-medium body with lively carbonation that is too strong and dominates the palate and overruns the taste. Crisp, dry finish. Overall, a good East-Coast IPA which could use a slightly richer appearance and less carbonation.

Pale gold pour with a moderate white head. Not much lacing. Grassy and spicy hops in the nose. Light mouthfeel. Spicy hops, mineral water, medicinal flavors, pale crackery malt. OK gateway IPA, but uninteresting.

From bottle @ GABF 2016, Geelong Pale gold body, white head. Mild aroma - pale malts, subtle citrus hop & spice. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Doesn’t offer a great deal on the palate (for an IPA) - toasty malt, light bit of citrus & peachy hop, moderate bitterness, short sort of finish. Hardly an IPA - could almost pass as a British Bitter if anything. Not great.

A floral pine aroma. Soft hazy golden amber body. White soap bubbly head.Mild bitter start with subtle grain maltiness to give it balance. Very good overall. I’d drink this again no problem.

Keg at the Carpenters Arms, Bethnal Green. At the end of a long day, this was a slightly tired and tiring sup. Very fizzy, minerally gobful. Not the most endearing flavour, sort of nice hops cut with metal. OK.

335 bottle @ Bruuveri Helsinki. Copper to orange color with small white head. Sweet nose with notes of honey and exotic fruits. Bit overpowering sweetness all the way. Some alcohol pushes through in the end. Not that balanced.

35 cl bottle, 6.2%. Dark yellow color, slightly hazed. Short thick white head, lacing. American hops upfront. Sugary pale malts, cookies, orange, orange peel, hints of caramel and flowers. Tasty, mild bitterness, medium body, soft carbonation, nice floral finish. Tasty mild IPA.
