COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

The aroma is hoppy and flowerish - the flavor is hoppy and then sweet before it goes over to a bitter aftertaste.

Bottled on 110607. Off-whte head that mostly diiminished, splotchy amounts of lacing, transparent, slow rising carbonation, and a yellow hue. The nose was hoppy, citrus, floral, sweet and some malt. The flavor was hoppy, citrus, some caramel malt and finishes sticky and somewhat gummy. The mouthfeel was fairly smooth with a bit of stickiness. Medium in body. An IPA that is not over-the-top hops, drinkable but not anything all that special IMO. A lot better ones of this style to be had.

Draft - Pours a copper color with a medium white head. Mild hoppy aroma, with hints of orange. sweet taste, with medium hop notes. Drinkable but not great.

Gold color with an average head. Aroma is of hops. Taste is hoppy but it weak for an IPA.

Bottle. Pours a clear bubbly golden-orange with an average size diminishing white head. Mild aroma of light resiny floral hops and malt -- thatís pretty much it, itís hard to detect much as itís so mild. Flavourís not bad, hoppier then I expected which is a good thing but still mild though. The hop flavour kicks in halfway, backed by caramel malt and then thereís a light to average bitter finish -- Itís clean and thereís nothing bad here, itís just too light. Average bodied. Not bad, especially for Redhook and I could drink this, but overall itís pretty average.

Bottle. Pours a yellow amber color and has a good sized creamy white head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is of pine, grapefruit and hops. Taste is of pine, grapefruit, hops and is kind of bitter and sweet. Leaves a hoppy/bitter aftertaste. I like the taste of this brew (reminds me of their Winterhook) and it has a nice alcohol content to it. IT is pretty enjoyable whether it is warm or cold. Overall, this is a nice beer, especially considering that it is moderately cheap for a six pack and is rather fulfilling.

12oz. bottle. Moderately citrusy nose rises off a light head with little staying power. Quick bite on the front of the tongue doesnít go anywhere beyond that. Some interesting notes of pine resin and heather, but they seem free-floating on the palate. This IPA is totally middle of the road. I bumped it to an 11 on the overall because thereís nothing really bad about it, and it manages to hide the alcohol content pretty nicely.

unclemike (2222) - Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA - MAR 8, 2008
12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear light gold, pretty decent white head with little lace. Hoppy nose that is pine and spice based, but little else in the aroma. Clean, light mouthfeel, light to medium body and medium carbonation. Flavor is lightly bitter with a dry finish, but not much in the way of malt based flavors. Not a bad IPA as a thirst quencher, but not in the same league as the really great IPAís

HogTownHarry (6101) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - MAR 1, 2008
Bottle (12oz). Clear bright gold with an amber tinge, smallish fizzy-frothy diminishing white head. Strong initial aroma of pine and orange zest, with a hint of pineapple and grapefruit, but that fades quickly to generic dry floral resin with characterless sweet malt backing. The taste - well itís pretty underwhelming, sort of citronella with dry pinewood, quite stale and a little harsh. Watery body, astringent without any upside, a stinging harsh bitterness in the back-end that lingers a long time. My lasting impression is "cheaply made"

Pours straw yellow with a hint of gold. Wispy white head. Light aroma of citrus and floral hops. Moderate hop flavor with a long finish. Light bodied. Very drinkable, lacking in flavor.
