The distinctive India Pale Ale style was developed by British brewers in the 1700s in order to create a sturdy beer that could survive long sea journeys to far-flung colonies where troops eagerly awaited the arrival of this sublime liquid refreshment. Long Hammer takes the traditional IPA brewing process one step further by dry hopping, or adding hops at the end of the brewing process with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion. Long Hammer pairs nicely with grilled meats, seafood, Mexican, Indian, Thai or other spicy ethnic foods. Available year round.

Grapefruit nose. Light hop palate. Finish is kinda a harsh bitterness. Not balanced like the top end ipa’s

Bottle from Ship in a Bottle, West Kirby. Slightly hazy gold pour with a medium white head. Fragrant grassy hop present in the snout. Pleasant moutheel. Some decent tropical fruit and hop in the flavour. Dryish bitter finish. Straightforward and drinkable stuff. Possibly a bit harshly treated on here.

"clear, a little bland and bitter, without being quite aromatic enough for an ipa. for redhook, of who i am not a fan, this is a pretty solid effort, but i won’t buy it."

Bottle at Pig and Butcher in London. Light gold pour. Aroma and flavor are standard IPA - nothing too exciting. Some apple, bitter, pine. Wouldn't get again.

As the style goes, this one shows off a mild but pronounced hop bitterness that delivers a different and quite pleasant experience. A little bit of soap lowers the score.

Clear amber pour from a bottle. Smells mostly of malt, slightly sweet with a little citrus backing it up. This is now my sixth, the more I have the more I like them... You get the ale with a dry hoppy finish but not overpowering, I dare say it’s pretty sessionable, perhaps an ISA???

An IPA with nothing to write home about. Clear yellow with a nose of citrus. Taste has citrus and resin with caramel malt.

the apitamy of an ipa. many are too aggressive. this is the standard typical old school cascade ipa - citrust n grapefruit aroma n flavor without being over the top....with a fair amount of abv at 6.5%. love it!

Transfer from BA review on 10-2-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance- Pours a clear golden amber color with a big billowy white head of two finger height. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over about a 4 min. time period to leave a lighter leave of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is dominated by a grapefruit hop smell but is mixed with other aromas of a tropical fruit smell of mango, papaya and tangerine. Along with these aromas are some light bready smells as well as a little bit of a pine smell. Overall the smell is nice and fruity. Taste – The taste begins with a more bready taste mixed with a bit of a grapefruit hop flavor upfront. There are some sweeter flavors of orange and caramel right at the start as well. The sweeter flavors lose intensity as the flavor advances. While the sweetness fades the grapefruit hop grows more intense with it taking on a much more bitter flavor. Toward the middle to the end some cracker malt flavors come to the tongue as well a rather nice dose of resinous pine hop, in the end leaving a slightly bitter and drier malt flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that was rather average. The average carbonation was very fitting and appropriate for the hop and malt flavors of the brew, but the thinner body did not really support the hop flavor profile well and could have been a bit thicker in nature. Overall – A fairly decent IPA that is a bit on the drier side. A little more tropical fruit sweetness in flavor and a thicker body would have likely made this brew quite fantastic, but even without it, the beer is still enjoyable overall.

bottle from Bierpost. Clear golden colour with a white head. Good hoppy nose - fruity and slightly herbal. Full-bodied malty base supporting herbal-resiny and fruity hops, citrusy with a tropical touch.

12oz bottle from my son: poured into a ’Good People’ US pint glass from Birmingham Alabama, just so it would be happy. Light amber/golden pour, white head on the clear, clean and bright body. Plenty of carbonation bubbles rising to sit just below the head trying to replenish it. Dry and hop front to both the aroma and taste, mild citrus hints with a good bitter base that I enjoyed. Decent and surprised my lad found this in a pub down in London E17.
