Bottle - Smells scuzzy, tastes scuzzy. Why is there so much sediment in my IPA? Probably the worst IPA I've ever had.

Draft. Not a lot to choose from for the craft guy, so I had to try this one. Poured a clear dark yellow with small white head. Aroma was very faint to me, but it was an open top glass, so that could add to it. Light citrus and herbal notes on the nose. Flavor was decent with citrus, mainly lemon, herbal, some grass notes. Body was light, texture was thin, carbonation was average. Finish was quick and smooth. Ok, but nothing I’d seek out.

Nothing special to the eastern beer drinker that loves west-coast style IPA

Maker: Redhook Brewery, Woodinville, Washington, United States *** Beer: Redhook Long Hammer IPA *** (bottled, unfiltered, 355ml) Style: American Pale Ale (APA) *** ALC.VOL.: 6.2% (not 6.5!) *** "Dry hopped with Cascade hops to give a wonderful hop aroma but not the overpowering hop taste. Long Hammer IPA is the beer you find yourself reaching for again and again, no matter what the occasion." [brewery note] *** Colour: Golden yellow, slightly hazy. Small, fluffy white head. *** Nose: Grapefruit, pine, resin, grass. *** Texture: Medium body, slightly fizzy. Medium carbonation. *** Taste: Dry, moderately sour citrus notes and pine, hints of malt. Mild pine/resin towards the middle, citrus notes now drier still. More pine/resin in the finish, muted citrus. Moderately long after taste, again of citrus and pine. *** Impressions: Straightforward to a fault, this mainstream APA does not particularly impress. Very dry, not a lot of different flavours, no real depth. Good thirst-quencher, but certainly no top-notch exponent of its style.

Taste from a friend (tap) @ High Finance, Sandia Peak. Pours cloudy amber with a low head. Aroma us fruity malts. Flavor is malts, fruits and hops. Decent, if a bit ordinary.

Bottle. Whole Foods Market, Piccadilly, London. Clear gold. Barely a head. Bottled 12 weeks ago, and if there was much of an aroma, then it’s mostly been and gone. Try hard and there’s a little earthy hop. Light toffee malts. Taste is light sweet, with a little juicy bitterness. Palate is lively, and fairly crisp. Finishes light bitter. It’s ok. Pretty drinkable, without being in your face.

Appearance: clear pale gold with a short soapy ivory head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: caramel malt, pine resin, citrus, grassy. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, medium duration bitter finish. (3/5) Yeah, OK, bit of a shelf turd. The dry hopping seems to have faded a little (hardly surprising, given the age) leaving the base medium IBU rating. Not unpleasant, but not all that interesting. (12/20)

Bottle left at my house from fantasy football draft. Poured to glass. Nose is a pungent grass with light orange skin. A dusty Munich malt aroma as well. Not an overly inviting aroma. Crystal clear, deep yellow, small white head. Taste is bitter, moderately pithy up front, followed by a faint citrus note, then falls flat into a watery finish. Ends with a moderate to high alcohol warming in the chest. Not really good at all.

Growler from GAT Beer in NE Phila. Pours lightly hazy golden color with a 1-finger off-white head. Aroma is mild, mixing citrus and biscuit notes. Body is a touch lighter than medium and slightly watery. Finish is brief and very slightly dry. Mild flavor of citrus with a biscuit note beneath.

A decent mainstream IPA. Poured from draft at local Buffalo Wild Wings. Made a great pairing with wings and fries. Not as hoppy/floral as other brands.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2015 Pleasant citrus aroma in an amber pour. Taste is much the same - pleasant - but nothing to write home about.
