12oz bottle pours clear deep red-amber with thin tan head. The aroma has some roasted malts mixing with bits of caramel malts, chocolate malts, spicy hops and black licorice. The taste offers up notes of roasted malts, a pulse of sweet dark fruity esters and then rolling into spicy and earthy hops. Into the finish chocolate malts surface and then give way to a mild level of burnt malts off into the after taste.

On tap. Poured a clear amber brown with a light tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of sweet grains and chocolate with underlying notes of nuts and toffee. Flavor began with light chocolate, nuts and toffee that mellowed slightly to a dark grain and hay finish.

Aroma dark caramel, honey, light clean hop on top. Sweet sided yet not cloying. Slight fruity notes at finish. 7-
Appearance dark amber with hints of brown. Lighter tanned top.
Flavor and Palate : Medium bodied. Malty, soft textured base. Sweet with slight nutty character, faint touch of chocolate. Fruity fig like finish. Fine but overall bit too sweet even for my taste.

Bottle:   Not quite brown in color but rather dark reddish amber.   Huge frothy light beige head with sticky lacing.   Soft toasted malts, smidgen of lactose sweetness.   Soft hops up front, moderate toasted malt base.   Not a hoppy brown by any means.   Very minor nuttiness.   Not as robust as their old Nut Brown, a little lighter.   Sessionable, unoffensive, and just plain easy to drink.   I could easily kick back a few of these.   Not half bad.

Ernest (6143) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 17, 2011
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a note of plum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Simple but ok in the nose. A tad clunky and dirty in the mouth. Boring and forgettable.
