RSRIZZO (987), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 29, 2007 Had this beer on 4/7/1999. Color is a deep dark rich amber with good carbonation and head. Aroma is sweet with a rich malt scent. Taste is malty and robust. It starts with a medium body that before it even goes down is showing signs of maltyness. As it goes down smoothly and a bit creamy this maltyness builds up. The finish is a rich roasted malt flavor which caries a slight sweetness followed by a gentle hop bitterness and flavor. Overall I think its excellent, it may be the best Brown Ale I’ve ever had and one of the most well balanced brews I’ve come across.
phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 12, 2008 Pours a dark brown colour with a little tan head. Aroma is nutty with roasted almonds and soft honey. Lighter then what i would’ve enjoyed, taste has faint nutty characteristics and milk chocolate. As I recall, this wasn’t the nut brown flavor I was hoping for. Perhaps the nut brown is more of the hue of the brew. Flavors were that of an amber ale. Nothing unique. changeup45 (557), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 12, 2008 Pours a dark brown, amber tinted body with a moderate tanish head. Aroma is sweet with mild malts in there. Flavor is pretty sweet (but not overly sweet), with brown sugar an wood characteristics. Some malt lingers in the background. Often I find that some Brown Ales are way too sweet or quite bland and this was fortunately neither. Solid overall choice. Ron (737), Rochester, New York, USA Apr 4, 2008 Pours a ruby red color. Nice toasted malt caramel aroma. Flavor is quite malty. Some chocolate flavor in there as well. Enjoyable ale. Goodgrief (1013), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 1, 2008 Feb. 2005 - This has to be the Budweiser of brown ales. Very little aroma or head...taste was bitter without much flavor at all. I’m always on the lookout for a decent cheap beer of a style I like...this wasn’t it. Hopefully, the ESB will be better (since I bought one of those, too)...but I’m not hopeful after this pitiful showing.
