Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter is dark chestnut brown in color and is made with pureed pumpkin. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are added to the whirlpool and maple syrup is added during fermentation. Lightly hopped with Northern Brewer hops, Pumpkin Porter is a full-bodied, rich and roasty porter perfect for all things fall – eating turkey, watching football or drinking with your buddies around a bonfire.

Strong cinnamon aroma coming out of the bottle and reminiscent of rootbeer . Clear and very dark brown with a wispy medium tan head. The cinnamon does come through clearly in the taste, but not in an overwhelming way that I was afraid of. Nutmeg and ginger spice too to round out the nice pumpkin pie flavor that’s seasonal but again not overwhelming. The body is rather thin and there’s a dry woodiness to it that’s almost like rye but not spicy. Some definite sugar sweetness but perfectly proportioned. Good roasted and lightly charred malt components, but they’re relegated to the background by the spices. Finishes with a dry charred wood taste/feel and maple syrup sweetness. This gets better as you drink it and the spices get more familiar. Nice fall pumpkin beer.

12 oz. bottle that I picked up while in Newport, RI. Pours a clear deep reddish brown that still allows light to easily pass through with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of pumpkin, cinnamon, chocolate and lightly roasted malt. The flavor is similar with the same pumpkin, cinnamon, chocolate and lightly roasted malt. Mild bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied.

Pretty dark black color. Sparse tan ring of foam medium thin body. Aroma is dominated by licorice with hints of pumpkin.. So is taste, followed by clove, again, with the pumpkin only a hint. This is pretty good, mostly because.clive is.awesome, but misses the pumpkin mark!

12 ounce bottle from Downtown Wine & Gourmet, Harrisonburg. Pours a clear dark brown with red tints. Medium sized frothy tan head, decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate, pumpkin, roast, ginger, other herbal and vegetal notes. The taste is roasted malts, maple, chocolate, pumpkin, mild spices in the finish. Thin-medium bodied, strong carbonation.

12 ounce bottle. This pours quite dark with a one finger tan head sitting on top. Thick lacing. Lots of spice in the aroma. Nutmeg leads. An interesting feel. It is like wet powder. Fall flavors of nutmeg, pumpkin with maple. Hops aren’t really tasted but somehow they can be felt. Earth grows as does the spice at the finish. This is more of a pumpkin beer than a porter.

Where is the pumpkin. Below average porter but not a bad beer. Roasted aroma with a earth and slight spice aroma. Nice dark pour. I dont taste pumpkin at all. Watery roasted and burnt malt and slight spices and not necessarily normal pumpkin pie spices. Meh

smells like black licorice to me...extremely dark..can’t see through it...dark, heavy malty....tastes a bit like licorice too...not very good...very complex but too many spices...guess it would be good occasionally...but not just to have a beer

Pours near black, two finger head. Smell lots of pumpkin and cinnamon. Taste great coffee roast and pumpkin. Medium body, velvety mouthfeel. Good

12oz bottle poured to shaker. I’m relatively new on the pumpkin beer bandwagon. They seem to be all the rage so I’m giving them a shot. I am a traditional porter lover however. The nose is intriguing and for me somewhat unexpected. The spices associated with pumpkin pie are present and jump to the fore. Cardamon/ cinnamon nutmeg some ginger and especially clove Yet I was left wanting in finding the strong coffee or bittersweet chocolate notes I love in a good porter. The taste follows the nose. There are nice savory spice flavors but not nearly enough pumpkin oomph! The bitterness from the dark roasted malts and hops offer a nice bite. But the mouthfeel is a bit thin and not as rounded as it could be. The maple syrup does make a cameo appearance at the end of the swallow. I would have liked a touch more. Overall an interesting effort not fully realized. I wouldn’t put this on the Thanksgiving table but it would be quite serviceable kicking back on the couch with Friday’s turkey sandwiches and leftovers.

Brown in color, hazy with a thin tan head. Nice porter flavor thick chocolate and good finish. The pumpkin was light and creamy in the addition. I was hoping for more pumpkin and spice flavors.
