Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter is dark chestnut brown in color and is made with pureed pumpkin. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are added to the whirlpool and maple syrup is added during fermentation. Lightly hopped with Northern Brewer hops, Pumpkin Porter is a full-bodied, rich and roasty porter perfect for all things fall – eating turkey, watching football or drinking with your buddies around a bonfire.

Pours black in the glass. Aroma of some pumpkin and spice with a hint of cocoa. Clean bittersweet dark cocoa and a hint of sweet spice and more pumpkin. Overall, tasty and perfect for Thanksgiving.

Sample at Kurtkeller 001: Pumpkin-tastic 01 on 11/22/2013. Dark mahogany pour with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of nutmeg and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of cinnamon, roast malt and pumpkin spice. The finish is sweet with spices and mild malt in the aftertaste. Decent overall.

Porter plus pumpkin equals great. I love porters and this has the hint of just the right spices.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, pumpkin, and spice. Tastes roasty, with pumpkin and spice. Medium to light mouthfeel, and finishes a tad uninspiring.

Pours a dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma is of wintery spices and caramel. Great flavor, a lot of pumpkin comes through. Very light-bodied for a porter. Easily the best pumpkin beer I’ve tried so far.

Bottle. Dark chestnut brown pour with a small ring head. Nice aroma of clove, pumpkin, and spice. Taste isn’t quite as bold but still good. Palate is thinner to moderate. Good beer.

Bottle from 7-11: Poured a dark brown that was completely opaque while a delicate layer of creamy foam head rested on top. The aroma is mild with obvious whiffs of spices found in a pumpkin pie while a faint scent of roast malts is noticeable. The drink has minor roast flavors with an artificial taste of pumpkin pie. I am able to taste few spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, but nothing special in this beer here--I am happy to have only paid $3 for a bomber though so extra points.

Strong cinnamon aroma coming out of the bottle and reminiscent of rootbeer . Clear and very dark brown with a wispy medium tan head. The cinnamon does come through clearly in the taste, but not in an overwhelming way that I was afraid of. Nutmeg and ginger spice too to round out the nice pumpkin pie flavor that’s seasonal but again not overwhelming. The body is rather thin and there’s a dry woodiness to it that’s almost like rye but not spicy. Some definite sugar sweetness but perfectly proportioned. Good roasted and lightly charred malt components, but they’re relegated to the background by the spices. Finishes with a dry charred wood taste/feel and maple syrup sweetness. This gets better as you drink it and the spices get more familiar. Nice fall pumpkin beer.
