3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is pumpkin and allspice. It pours a rich black color, with a solid white head. It is nice mix of pumpkin ale and porter. It has a rich, thick viscosity like any good porter. It starts out sweet, with hints of caramel, pumpkin, nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla. Then you are hit with a rich malt taste. It finishes with a bitter, coffee like flavor, along with some spicy hops.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle, bottled on July 3, 2014. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half light tan head. Head retention is excellent, and there’s also a lot of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, pumpkin spices (nutmeg, cinnamon), coffee and a bit of chocolate. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there’s also some burnt/charred malt and ginger in there. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. It’s also smooth and easy to drink. I thought this was a good brew, and a pretty good deal for the price at $7.49 a 6-pack. At that price, why not try it? I know I won’t have any problems finishing this 6 pack!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown / reddish with a tan head. The aroma has roasty malt, pumpkin, clove, nutmeg and crustiness - comes across as roasty pumpkin pie. It has a medium body with lots of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with smooth toastiness (doesn’t taste roasty), black pepper, phenolic spice, cloves and crackers The finish is crackery and shows more roast and has slight bits of pumpkin. Nice porter with slight pumpkin enhancements.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate ginger, lighter cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, chocolate, and a touch of roasted malt...maybe roasted pumpkin...or maybe power of suggestion. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a two finger tan head that has decent retention before fading to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is a good amount of thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate. The finish light ginger, clove, nutmeg, roasted malt, and a touch of coffee. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, the aroma makes me think pumpkin Porter. The flavor makes me think more of a winter spiced porter.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Redhook Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter has potential but falls flat (literally). Sweet malty aroma coming from a dark brown pour and a fizzy head that quickly goes flat. Taste has a nice balance of malt with subtle hints of smoke and pumpkin flavors. Mouth feel is a little thin, though. Out Of Your Gourd is an original take on a pumpkin, but needs better execution. (I’ll update if this first bottle is an aberration.)

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours burnt chocolate brown, aroma of pumpkin/molasses/cinnamon. Palate is left clean with minimal aftertaste.
This is a fantastic fall beer. Once the weather starts to drop and football is being played...this is the perfect beer.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle.
Dark, opaque, red-brown body with a decent head.
Smells good but this is an overly spiced ale. Good bitter/sweet balance. Pumpkin pie spices dominate and mask the malt base.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is a very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasty malts with some spice. Flavor is an equally nice roasted malt with some cinnamon and spice. Finish is thin but has enough spice to be noticeable. Not great but a pumpkin porter is something different.
