goldtwins (3734), Nesconset, New York, USA May 1, 2008 Poured a clear copper color with an off-white head. Toffee aroma with light notes of oxidized malt. Some notes of oranges in the malt. There was also a dirty quality to it and even hints of almonds. The flavor was a mix of pine and malt.
Immy (1559), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 12, 2008 12 oz bottle, Limited 2007 Release. Clear copper with a small off white head. Citrus and fleashy fruit nose - orange and peach - with some sweet, syrupy malt and alcohol. A phrase, "maltarded", was coined awhile ago, and it partially applies here. Big, sweet, syrupy malt with a distinct orange hop edge. Thick, syrupy body. It’s very simple, and on a simple level, it works. A barleywine with training wheels. Haslinger (526), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 13, 2008 Sampled at Empire State Brew fest in Syracuse. Malty aroma, great malt taste with some hops mixed in, VERY nicely blended hops and malt. Great finish
Would buy again beastiefan2k (1109), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Apr 28, 2008 Shared by goldtwins. Pours a completely lucid copper color. Aroma is super-sweet-hard raisin candy. It’s actually your pretty basic strong, filtered to the gills, barleywine. Taste is strong, raisin, and astringent caramel. It’s not necessarily bad, just not interesting and trite. What is worst of all is an AB-like dumb catch phrase on the label; "hand brewed." 12oz bottle, Stone 11th Anniversary tasting glass. IrishBoy (2129), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 5, 2008 12 oz bottle from Porterhouse! Thanks Kevin! Nose is berry, caramel, and alcohol; clear, rusty copper with a small straw head; flavor is sweet strawberry, warm alcohol, and some hop bitterness; finish is alcohol and bitterness; not a great barleywine but a warm flavorful one; would probably be better with some age on it!
