COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep golden hued, with subtle hints of vanilla, clove, and cinnamon. Fruity, spicy, and warming with a complex but soft malt character. Editor’s Note: Limited edition summer seasonal for 2009 but pilot batches were available at fests and the brewpub prior to this release.

22oz bottle 1/9/11 (Orlando)-Pours a hazy orangish amber with a small white head. Aroma of yeast, clove, cinnamon, and belgian. Taste of belgian, alcohol, vanilla, and malt. This full bodied brew was not bad. Have to say it held up pretty well. Nice job.

11/21/2009 - I fell for the limited release line again, and this time I got burned. The Red Hook Tripel pours silently and produces little to no head. It’s clear, with a nice fox orange color, and a wreathe of carbonation in 5 or 6 discrete geysers. The aroma is wheaty and sweet, proffering smells of orange, pineapple and bubblegum, with a general sense of thick fruit syrups. It’s enticing, but the flavor is a betrayal. The palate is flat, soapy, reeks of chemicals and perfume, and becomes progressively more bitter in the mouth as it lingers. The kicker is the metallic aftertaste that sits on the tongue, refusing to budge even for a gulp of water. It’s a pity that the aroma was so inviting, because the flavor is so disappointing. One of the few beers I’ve had to eject down the drain, and that always makes for a sad day.

Interesting mix of a belgian tripel and hefeweisen elements. Creamy, pils-y aftertaste.

Hearty syrup enriched body. Sharp yeast notes with tropical fruit character. Spice and belgian candy with funked old moss.

Clear gold beer. Little white head. Softish dry palate. Sweet dry malt, a little metallic and a little brandyish in it’s warmth. Some orange peeping through before a dry finish and a warm afterglow. Unsubtle and a bit clunky.

Originally reviewed: 7/23/09. 22oz picked up at a grocery store while visiting in Charlotte. Poured into my tulip glass. Pours a dark rusty orange with a decent-sized off white head on top. Little retention, and little to no lacing present. Smells of yeast, pineapple, and light breads. The mouth is spritzy and well carbonated, as I would expect. Flavor is yeasty and slightly tart. Finishes slightly acrid and roasty. That’s a weird aftertaste. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Not a bad beer by any means. I’d love to see how this ages. I may have to get another...

Bottle… Pours cloudy and orange with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma is an unpleasant mixture of warm brow perspiration and meat broth with a hint of apricot. Full-bodied and lightly oily with tingly carbonation. The flavor is minerally and bland. Finishes warming and a touch bitter. The only saving grace here is that the high abv is neither hot nor unpleasant. Otherwise, Bleh.

Golden/orange pour with white head. Aroma of orange zest, light abv. Flavor is brown sugar, resiny hoppiness like bitter, a citrus zest, and a nice abv warmth. A light medium body with no off flavors and a crisp clean flavor. A big beer with the deceptive air of drinkabiltiy. A creeper for sure. Nice carbonation

Drake (6507) - Ivy, Virginia, USA - JAN 23, 2012
2009 vintage bomber from Peace Street Market in Raleigh. Pours a hazy amber with floating particles. The thin creamy slightly off-white head shows no signs of going anywhere. The aroma is spice, candi sugar, pears, citrus and a faintly hoppy finish. The taste is bread, candi sugar, bubblegum, butter rum, raisin, spice, toasted notes and slight oxidation. Medium-full bodied, high carbonation and a faint bit of warmth.
