2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 Fratto (1814) - Arlington, Texas, USA - SEP 14, 2009
An okay winter ale offering from Red Hook. I was really expecting more, though.
1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 crabcakes (20) - Duluth, Minnesota, USA - SEP 3, 2009
Unfortunately, this is one of the worst beers I have ever had. Extremely bitter and harsh on the taste buds, this beer was a huge disappointment. I had heard good things about it and was excited to try Winterhook, but I walked away disappointed.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 drowland (3570) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2009
Had this on tap at an Old Chicago and it just was not good... not good at all. Maybe it was the place.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 BigBen2120 (688) - Derry, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 17, 2009
(from December 2008):
12oz bottle from the local Shaw’s. Pours a translucent dark copper color with a good half inch of off-white head. Smells fruity, spicy, hoppy, malty, caramel/toffee... Tastes fruity, with cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest, nut, toffee, caramel, just a tinge of butter... A wide plethora of flavors with the malt and hops both playing huge roles. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation combines with the pleasant flavors to make this one super-drinkable. A new favorite winter beer!
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 kseecs16 (1086) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2009
Bottle. Aroma is very malty, a bit grainy, reddish brown with a wispy off-white head. Grainy malt dominates the flavor profille, a slight lingering dryness. Just not a lot here and a boring dry flavor.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Soonah (1120) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - JUL 8, 2009
Poured a clear, dark copper color with a short lived, off-white head that produced minimal lacing. The aroma was old hops, iced tea, malt and light spices. The flavor was mainly iced tea and caramel malts. Thin mouthfeel with a dry finish. Blah.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 esjaygee (2496) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 8, 2009
Bottle from beastiefan2k - thanks Eugene! Clear copper with a thin tan head that quickly fades away leaving a small layer atop. Aroma of caramel, strong toffee, toasted malt and earthy hops. Taste is malt up front with toffee, caramel and moderate fruit with some citrus hops and pine to balance it out with some spicy notes. Average mouth feel with some moderate finish and a little burnt malt characteristic comes through as it warms. Not bad.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 leems (406) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 5, 2009
12oz bottle many times. Aroma is caramel and light early hops. Flavor is slight pine and earth hops but fairly sweet. This was a favorite early in my drinking career but I’ve mostly moved on.
