Pours red with a frothy head. Aroma is softly floral, with pine. Flavor opens on a wonderful fresh estery hop note, then moving to a stronger malt backing with spices. Good mixture, assertively hopped, and tasty. I did, however, find the palate and aroma to be a touch thin.

bottle- found this much better than I was expecting- a very nice pleasant pine/earthy hop flavor that dominated the advertised toasted notes. Very nice and drinkable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 21, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2009 12 oz, bottled 10-01-08. Clear, ruby-copper with a lasting quarter inch of foam that leaves nice lace behind. Aroma of tea leaf and molasses. Flavor is molasses, toasty nut, tea leaf, and light chocolate-orange with a finish of citrus and toasted oak. Medium body is smooth, lightly carbonated and dryish. Excellent example of the style, and tastier than many English Ales. Best I have had from this brewery.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 VTHopHead (1340) - Barre, Vermont, USA - DEC 20, 2008
Bottle - Poured a hazy dark amber in color with a very small white head that quickly faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer. Low carbonation overall. Aroma is not strong with hints of roasted malts and some citrusy hops. Flavor is similar, very little of much except some roasted malts and some hoppiness. Slightly sour on the finish. Could be a better beer if it just had more flavor... I am disappointed... Red Hook can do much better!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 guzzler67 (1373) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - DEC 18, 2008
Mahogany appearance with a small, off white head and good lacing. Fairly hoppy aroma, with pine in the forefront balanced a bit by caramel malts. Moderately sweet taste, some resin, with a woodsy edge. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with a short lived finish.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclemike (1365) - Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA - DEC 16, 2008
Sampled from bottle. Pours clear, dark brown with a thin, collared head. Aroma is very subtle with only some earth and coffee notes. Flavor is slightly bitter with chocolate, pine and black pepper. Bitterness lingers. Medium-full body, moderately carbonated. Other than its looks, a decent beer. Quite hoppy for the style
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 BeerBlockaid (679) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - DEC 16, 2008
Seems to be the seasonal trend. Just toss in some roasted malts and barley, and act like it is roasted chestnuts. Well, this was sessional, but definitely not seasonal. I made up a new word! Well, like I said. Nut brown pour with amber hints. Tan head. Lots of roasted malts, some dark fruits. Nothing really stand out about it. I feel cheated usually by seasonal brews, and this one also being the case. Lots of caramel in the aftertaste.
