A rich, hearty ale brewed for a clean, dry, roasty palate.

Pours a clear light orange-amber color. A small, fizzy white head quickly subsides, leaving behind a thin layer. Random flares of lacing coat the glass well. The aroma shows toasted caramel, toasted grains, and some mild floral hops. The flavor is essentially the same, with caramel, toast, drying grains, and some bitter floral hops. Pretty well balanced, but lacking real substance. Medium bodied, finishing clean and semi-dry. Decent beer, but a bit boring for my liking.

Bottle sampled at sl holiday beer event. Pours a rich amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, citrus notes and some floral hops. Light to medium bodied with a good balanced flavor of roasted malt and hop aroma and has a nice bitter finish.

Very hoppy aroma. Smooth and hoppy, a unique combination. The hops have a slightly unpleasant aftertaste. Fairly malty. A little caraway taste emerges, which I dislike. This beer has a lot of bite, a lot more than I expect from this style. Although I like it overall, there are many unpleasant tones in it. I especially dislike the character of the hops, although I appreciate the smoothness combined with the hoppiness.

This is a wierd one. Aroma was very weak but could pick up some caramel malt. Pour was a nice caramel brown with a thin white ring for a head that leaves quickly. Taste was a little flat and not very big. There’s some caramel malt in there with a slight hoppy aftertaste, but overall not much going on.

Dark copper color. Aroma is sweet fruity malt. The flavor is dried fruit with a light citrus finish. Medium bodied. Not really very "strong". Average.

MadMan (497) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 3, 2007
Bottle. Pours a darker amber with small off white head. Aroma is sweet malt with some fresh wet cardboard. Flavor is lightly roasty, malty, then somes in with a significant hop bite. Grapefruit and bitterness come in through to a dry finish medium in duration. This one is more hoppy than anything and very pleasant to drink.

Pours an amber-brown color with a minimal head. Sweet aroma, but a slightly hoppier flavor. Not as strong as most "English Strong Ales." 12 oz. bottle.
