Tan creamy head. Nice clear amber color. Hazy hoppy aroma. Light carbonation. Initially delicately hoppy transitioning into a warming, smoky-malty flavor. Nothing really jumped out at me in this beer. Let this one warm up a little.

Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 25, 2002
Clear deep amber color topped with a medium thick head that disappears relatively fast, however leaves good lace. Sweet fruity malt aroma with a hint of underlying hoppiness. Sweet fruity hoppy flavor with a good malt background and a hoppy fiish. Medium to full bodied and very warming.

delacerveza (166) - Florida, USA - DEC 23, 2002
clear copper, light but clinging head. tinny aroma. the first sip, i was like "ew, tastes like amber bock mixed with bud", but after it sat out for a while it wasnít as bad as i initially thought. not spicy at all, but a nice malty flavor. fizzy but somewhat watery palate. itíll do in a pinch i suppose.

VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - DEC 21, 2002
Crystal clear light copper. Off white edge head. Grainy malt aroma with hints of fruit syrup. Initially a bit rough with an astringent roasted edge covering a dextrin based body. Mild black cherry skin aftertaste. Medium light body. Balanced sweetness. Medium bitterness and a faint pine cone hop flavor. Taste seems artificial at times. Finishes warmer in flavor but not completely impressive. A slightly above average winter sessional.

ARMed (598) - Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 21, 2002
A very drinkable dark winter beer, but lacks the complex flavors of a comprehensively brewed winter. It has a nice dark bronze color. Nothing exceptional, but a decent winter brew with a lot of flavor and no harsh aftertaste. Relatively smooth and certainly enjoyable.

Its not what Iím expecting from a winter ale. Its more like an IPA to me because of the strong, and somewhat bitter hops taste, which Iím really not that fond of. Iíve bought IPAís before and some of them are enjoyable when Iím in the right mood for them, but this one has a hops taste that doesnít have alot of character and reminds me more of soap. But its definitely drinkable. I can easily finish this six pack, and if someone gives me some, Iíll happily consume that as well, but I probably wonít buy any more of it, because its just not that memorable to me, and its not what I envision as a winter ale, which is usually less better.

ElGaucho (2201) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - DEC 19, 2002
Light malt nose with hints of grain. Aroma is fairly nondescript. Small, fizzy, off-white head with fair lace. Clear, medium bodied amber color. Flavor is lightly bitter initially, stronger in the finish. Strongly malty, a little too malty. Finishes very nicely...with a good dose of hops. Very pleasant, though nothing spectacular.

Not as quite as spicey as I have come to expect from winter brews. A decent reddish brown color pour with a quickly dissapating head. Slight spice in the aroma and flavor - just not enough!

2002 bottle: I wasnít expecting too much from this one and I was not let down. It definitely needs to warm a little for any flavor to come through. Pours a dark amber color with minimal head and lace. Aroma is lightly matly and spicy. Flavor is slightly nutty with a little butterscotch or caramel but overall it is thin. Not as robust as I like my winter ales.
