This dark amber ofering has a nice rounded flavoring, though it is not really complex. The roasted malt presence is the dominant attribute making this winter brew a simple, flavorful treat.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2011 2001 Edition: This tastes weak and a finish that reminds me of bad lagers.
2011 Edition: Pours a clear orange with a medium white head, rich toasted malts in the aroma, starts and ends lightly bitter, medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel.

Pretty good winter brew. Not as good as Old Fezziwig Ale. My favorite winter brew.

This stuff has the nice spicy holiday aroma I was looking for, but I found the flavor weak, almost watered down, fading at the finish. Its not bad - just undistinguished. I’m still looking for a great Christmas brew.

This was stinky. It wasn’t skunked, but it was stinkyeasted. Cascade hopped, tinny first taste -- I suggest letting it sit and warm to get the ale flavor. The palate is actually on the higher side of 3, but not a 4. Some butterbread aftertaste. I was disappointed. Tastes like a bad Sierra Nevada brew.

Wimpy flavor. Disappointing for Redhook.

It may be my outraged sensibilities talking, but ever since they got in the sack with Anheuser-Busch, the quality of Redhook seems to be diminished. The 2001 Winterhook is strange and frothy in the mouth and curiously weak in body. The tastes are muddy - rancid butter, sourdough bread, badly aged raisins, and pine resin. Not a pleasant beer at all, at all.

2001I was kind of disappointed in this one. I was expecting a hearty, dark, rich ale, but I got a watered down ESB dark. Dark copper color, weak head that faded quickly and a dark taste that was reminiscent of burnt, watered down ESB (which I do love however). If you are buying several winter brews this year, and need to somehow limit whicch ones you get, this may be the one to leave off. Maybe next year.
