UPDATED: DEC 10, 2006 Dark amber color with a sweet sugary aroma. Taste has some spices and excess sugar, plus marshmallows. Unofortunately, this tasted like AB’s Bourbon Cask ale that I tried recently. Not all that good.

Hoppy aroma with a light. coppyr color. Not a lot of head. A little pine but otherwise an earthy flat taste.

Clovy aroma. Reddish copper color with a thin head and good lacing. Floral marigold flavor. Nice ingredients but too bitter and floral for my taste.

Brown pour with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is mild spicey hop with a wierd urine tinge. Caramel malt as well. Flavor is mostly some flabby caramel malt and spicey hop but the two never really come together. Not very good

Bottle. Oddly hoppy aroma for a beer in this style. Smells faintly like a DFH 60 minute combined with the smell of wet leaves. Pours a rich chestnut brown with a half finger width of cream colored head that dissipates quickly. Taste is at first slightly malty with a faint taste of cider spices (a la traditional winter brews). Mouthfeel is very thin, almost watery, and the back taste is almost non-existent. Not a bad beer, but I’ve had both better winter brews and English strong ales.

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma was full of roasted malts, but a little weak over all. Flavor was a bit weak as well with roasted malts and a bit of alcohol.

Draft at Olde Auburn Ale House, Auburn, Alabama. Poured caramel brown with thin tan head. Moderately roasty with a mild bitter finish. Low carbonation I will blame on the bar. Lightly spiced with hints of coffee.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet, herbal aroma. Smells of herbs, caramel, toasting, dough, and a little spice. Poured amber in color with a small tan head that diminished. Good lacing. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor is sweet. Tastes of dough, caramel, malts, toasting, and nuts. Light to medium body. Thin, watery texture. Soft carbonation. Malty, salty finish. Overall, pretty bad.

VTHopHead (1389) - Barre, Vermont, USA - DEC 20, 2008
Bottle - Poured a hazy dark amber in color with a very small white head that quickly faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer. Low carbonation overall. Aroma is not strong with hints of roasted malts and some citrusy hops. Flavor is similar, very little of much except some roasted malts and some hoppiness. Slightly sour on the finish. Could be a better beer if it just had more flavor... I am disappointed... Red Hook can do much better!

Light tan colour .. some decant head but dies down quite a bit .. some honey notes but muddled ... some flavours but too befuddling to pull out anything real, if that makes any sense.. an average beer but for an english strong winter beer, thin and watery but is easy drinking... McLovin ..
