A rich, hearty ale brewed for a clean, dry, roasty palate.

Bottle. Pours a translucent gold-brown. Nose is more or less roasty, chocolatey, and some light hops. The taste, however, is almost non-existent. I mean, there is some ultra light woodines and roasted malts, but youíve really got to concentrate. "A rich, hearty ale...." it is definitely not.

From a bottle. Pours a clear brown with a decent sized white head. Good lacing. Aroma is dominated by this one spice that I canít place..... sort of reminds me of a single needle from a christmas tree. You get a bit of that pine stuff in the flavor (and with each belch this beer creates) but the watery finish makes it very undesirable. Very boring and very thin. Looking at some of the other ratings of this, Iím having trouble figuring out where people get this myriad of different flavors from. All I get is water and pine.

Bottle. Poured cola-brown with little head, but at least what little head there was stayed there for a while. Smell and flavor is of caramel, spice, and sour cherries. Watery finish leaves something to be desired. Decent, but Iím sure there are better winter brews out there.

Average, average, average, average, average. What else is there to say? Pours fine, smells ok, tastes decent, but with no real character. "Hearty" it is not. Not distinguishable from a mediocre summer ale.

Bottle: Reddish brown color with a smaller head. Aroma is very light, bready with some spice. Taste is malt with a hint of spice, some metallic notes and a dry finish. Not what I expect of an English Strong Ale...

Let the overhopping begin (or, I should say, continue). Decnt enough Mallt and spice base gets overwhelmed by hops. Not very true to style. Still, it does have its bright points- looks good in the glass and some thought did go into the malt.

Bottle poured a clear tarnished copper. Aroma of bread, citrus and very piney, almost like a cleaning solvent. Bready flavour with malt and spice. Hoppy flavour with a metallic tang. This doesnít remind me of any English strong ales.

Clear brown/amber. No head. Mild aroma, toffee if any. "Drinkable", I guess. Mild if any hops, slight metallic flavor. Won’t buy next year.

Winter ales usually arenít my favorite. This one was probably the best of the winter ales Iíve had but I still didnít care too much for it.

Deep brown in color with a quickly diminishing tan head, this beer is bland with a bitter bite from the roasted malt. No spice. No character.
