I am on the fence about this one. I really want to like it but it has turpentine like bitterness. Now having said that it has a wonderful caramel malt and toffee taste as well. The aroma is floral hops and some pine. I have had better pine flavored ales and even though itís not bad it could be better.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark copper--same as an old penny--with a small off-white head. Smells of some sour citrusy hops, also a little metallicky as well. Thin mouthfeel, not very bitter, with a lingering "blah" finish. After the "blah," I get a little bit of a grassy aftertaste. Not terribly impressed with this one.

Clear dark amber colour with thin off white head. No distinguishable nose. Mild hop taste with slight dry bitter finish.

Pours dark reddish brown. Aroma is sweet, nutty, hints of citrus, maybe hints of coffee. Aroma is not that strong though. Flavor is very watery, but after that there is some nut, coffee, pine, citrus. Palate is watery and very thin. If it werenít so watery it seems like it would be a solid brew, but in this form it doesnít do much for me.

Bottle poured a clear tarnished copper with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of bread, a hint of brown sugar, a bit of anise and plastic. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bread, a hint of rye and light spice with a smooth dry lightly astringent finish.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2006 Dark amber color with a sweet sugary aroma. Taste has some spices and excess sugar, plus marshmallows. Unofortunately, this tasted like ABís Bourbon Cask ale that I tried recently. Not all that good.

Clovy aroma. Reddish copper color with a thin head and good lacing. Floral marigold flavor. Nice ingredients but too bitter and floral for my taste.

Reviewed 1/29/2009 (bottled 12/02/08): Pours a very clear brown colored body, with a small head, off-white in color. Has a hoppy malty sweet aroma. A dusty, light sweet taste. Very light tasting. Not much flavor. Has some hoppiness and bitterness, but not much flavor.

Brown pour with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is mild spicey hop with a wierd urine tinge. Caramel malt as well. Flavor is mostly some flabby caramel malt and spicey hop but the two never really come together. Not very good

Bottle. Oddly hoppy aroma for a beer in this style. Smells faintly like a DFH 60 minute combined with the smell of wet leaves. Pours a rich chestnut brown with a half finger width of cream colored head that dissipates quickly. Taste is at first slightly malty with a faint taste of cider spices (a la traditional winter brews). Mouthfeel is very thin, almost watery, and the back taste is almost non-existent. Not a bad beer, but Iíve had both better winter brews and English strong ales.
