Bottle. The pour was a clear copper brown with a huge (3-4 finger) off white rocky head that had great retention, finally reducing to a large foamy cap and had some fair spotty lacing. The aroma was of toasted caramel malts, spruce hops and a doughy yeast with notes of citrus (orange), toffee and dark fruit (plums and raisins). The taste was moderately sweet and had a nice malty feel with hints of toffee and citrus at first and then became mildly hoppy with a note of dark fruit and a slight bitter finish. The flavor lasted only a short while with the fruity hoppy taste fading relatively quick. Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and mildly dry in texture with a soft carbonation. Overall a decent Winter Warmer that was very drinkable, although it is nothing over the top...

Bottle at Century Link Field in Seattle. Dryness is the striking aspect in this beer for me.

Pleasant malty aroma. Pours clear red-brown with a frothy white head. Taste is not too complex, medium sourness. Medium body, average carbonation. Would drink again but not something I’m going to be hunting down!

12 oz bottle. Pours dark reddish caramel with thin off white head. Aroma is dark toffee and light hops. Taste is bright caramel malt with just a hint of char on the finish. Nice bitter piney hops for balance. Easily tastes bigger than 6% abv. Lacking the nuance of the better winter beers, but very tasty and underrated here.

Poured into a pint glass out of a 22oz bomber. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a one finger off-white head. Ok head retention but not much in the way of lacing. Aroma is a big shot of piny hops along with roasted malt, caramel, and toffee. Some cinnamon and nutmeg in there too. A little on the light side but pleasant. The flavor is big on piny hops but that is quickly followed by loads of caramel and toffee. Roasted malt is there along with quite a bit of nuttiness. Cinnamon is buried underneath but it all comes together to give this beer quite the "wintry" feel. Mouthfeel is a little chalky towards the finish and just a little on the thin side. Overall, I am quite impressed with this offering from Redhook. There are a lot of flavors coming together and they all work really well. One to pick up if you see it.

This came up when I scanned the mud slinger brown ale. Brown pour (obviously) smooth sweet flavor, great cold weather brew.... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It pours a chestnut brown in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. There wasn’t any head and it left ring-like yet spotty lacing around the glass. The smell has an abundance of nutty malts and a bit of alcohol. The taste is basically the same with just some sweetness and hints of spice. There is a slight bitterness but it isn’t anything overbearing. The palate is about a low to medium sort of feel with nothing harsh on the tongue. It has a dry aftertaste and finish. Overall, it is a drinkable beer. Its good for its style and decent for me.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 Strong malty scent. Malt is the dominant flavor as well but not as strong as in the scent. Some nice spices, too. Palate is decently thick, pleasant aftertaste. Another solid, underrated offering from Redhook.

Pours a clear dark amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma is spicy, hoppy, and sweet caramel. Taste is sweet with caramel and toasted grains with a little hoppy bitterness in the end.
