COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Redoak Baltic Porter has been brewed true to style and is a rich tasting beer with a velvet smoothness on the palate, a burnt currant fruitiness, followed by a warmth embrace of alcohol. This beer style originated in Russia for Catherine the Great in the Royal Court in the 17th century. David first tasted a Baltic porter in 1994 in a small café in Poland and no-one seemed to know what it was. Internationally, it was a lost style until discovered by Michael Jackson (the Beer expert) in 1997.

My first rating here in about 4 years! Black with a thin coffee-colour head. The aroma kills me everytime... a sweet stickiness which is over-the-top but not in a sickly way. Whiskey, chocolate, dried fruit and pudding in the mouth an alcoholic finish.

Black with a average looking brown head. Aroma of prunes, chocolate, rum, and vanilla... the alcohol is there, but its very clean, without any solventy notes. Great full body, warming and smooth. Flavours of dark hazelnut chocolate, vanilla, and a plethora of roasted malts giving loads of complexity. Silky finish with loads of chocolate. Probably Australia’s best beer, reminded me a lot of the unkaggen stormarksporter from Narke, maybe a little less rummy.

Bottled at RBESG 2006 - thanks to Motelpogo. A pitch black beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of caramel and roasted malt as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with medium notes of roasted malt and chocolate, as well as light notes of whiskey, leading to a dry roasted finish. The alcohol leaves a slight burn in the cheeks.

Probably the best beer from this little brewery. Everything they brew tends to be quite sweet, which I don’t like. But a little sweetness really suits the Baltic Porter. Very dark. Rich, chocolatey aroma. Nutty, roasty and chocolatey flavour with quite a lot of depth and complexity. The alcohol warms you up nicely, though it doesn’t really makes its presence known in the flavour, only in the way it lends some oiliness to the palate. Nice stuff. Looking at the other ratings though, how the hell did you squeeze 14 ratings out of one little bottle at the RBESG’06?!! Sheesh!

12 May 2006 (AIBA 2006-Rating 15) - Meaty light roast malt flavour. Dark-brown-red colour, good head and suds lacing. Spiritous raisin fruit roasted sweet malt flavour. Sweet hop malt finish. A Porter is not my favourite style but this beer is good.

Bottled at RBESG-06, GTN. Dark, reddish-brown, clear-looking beer with a small, tan head. Coffee, alcohol, mild chocolate, mocha and hops in the aroma. A very smooth beer with wocha, coffee, dark bitter chocolate and a full body. The finish has some alcohol with lots of coffee-bitterness. I want more of this! (060826)

[Bottle. RBESG 2006] Dark brown colour, light brown head. Good aroma, loaded with firstly raisins, secondly almond paste. Nice vineous nose. Full bodied with licorice, almond paste and chocolate, plus loads of tidbits. Nice and sweet, yet gentle.
