MBison (356), Southern Highlands, Australia Jul 4, 2008 Bottle from the Redoak (250ml). Poured a bloody pinkish red with a small light pink head which was mostly lasting. Aroma had strong notes of glazed cherries and raspberries with pomegranate juice (grenadine), marzipan and light notes of sour yeasty malts. Flavor was of tart raspberries with glazed sour cherries, sherbet notes, light notes of sour yeasty malts and a hint of lemon juice. Light bodied with medium carbonation, a dry/tart mouthfeel, syrupy texture and a good finish. Amazingly refreshing on a hot day.
Pyobon (137), Sydney, Australia Dec 14, 2007 Bottle. Bright pink and clear with a pink tinted head - very distinctive. Lovely fruity (raspberry) aroma. Lively carbonation. Very nice fruit flavour, perhaps a little sour and without the balancing flavours in a true Belgian version. Not an everyday beer (unless you really like this style), but a distinctive and excellent fruit beer. beer_ledgend (796), Meadowbank Auckland, New Zealand Jul 17, 2007 Bright pink in colour with thick white head. big candy floss aroma. Soft strawberry flavour like a pink bar or jelly tip ice cream. Hint of choclate, very pleasant no sourness or bitterness. Linc (736), Sydney, Australia Jan 27, 2007 Its bright red colour is cool, and the aroma is much like raspberry cordial. Not a lot of complexity to the flavour, but the drying sourness is good. As others have noted a little bit of funk would go a long way in this beer. Definately one for the beginners. MOFO (14), Newtown (Prev: Christchurch, NZ), Australia Dec 14, 2006 Better than the only other Raspberry beer I have tried - Belle-Vue. Didnt have the Lambic funkyness to it.
I enjoyed this as a beer onsite, and whilst a lot of the other beers at Redoak can be a bit inconsistant - this is always a firm winner. (Also a great way to convince the girlfriend to come to a beer bar!).
