clear deep amber with a nice beer-like head, persistent and off tan. Aroma of dark Belgian yeasty fruits, candy sugar, plums and figs, like a Belgo beer with sweetness. Taste is dry and fruity, with dark ripe fruit tones, classic funky Belgian yeast, on a alcoholic warm body and a dry finish. Crisp and light and dry, unlike what I expect from mead. But it’s good!

mixed a bottle of la folie w/ black raspberry mead myself, tastes sweet and sour of raspberrys and barrel aged sour, so good I highly recommend it if you have the means

Tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Red violet appearance with a light tan head. Somewhat sour honey mead aroma with a notable raspberry scent. Quite sweet and actually pretty sour honey raspberry flavor. Sparkling and sour raspberry finish. Excellent!!

Boulder Strong Fest at Avery. Red and brown with medium white head. Aroma is brett funk with caramel sweetness. Taste is acidic fruit going into sweet caramel, really nice. Overall, I like this more than La Folie, balances out wild acidity with mead sweetness. Great summer brew.

Cobalt blue swingtop 750ml bottle, courtesy Doodler. Pours a hazy reddish-blackberry color with a small, fizzy, off-white head that settles to a minimal film. Trace spots mark the glass. The nose is not nearly as sweet as expected, as honey seems more of an afterthought to the dulled raspberry notes. Likewise, there’s little to no acetic tartness or barrel influence from the La Folie. The flavor confirms this neutralization effect, as once again a subdued berry and grain profile is what comes across, void of honey sweetness or acetic barrel character. The palate seems a little watery and is under carbonated. I had high hopes for this stuff, but in the end, the two products just seem to cancel each other out. La Folie is certainly much better on its own, and I suspect the mead is as well.

Pours a nice, dense and cloudy cedar red with an aroma of tame blackberry and cranberry juice. Flavor is zesty, mild cranberry and blackberry. Lingers on the tongue. Great beer.
