COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our first mead released in July 2001. To-date we receive more requests and attention for Black Raspberry Nectar then for any other one of our meads! With the mouth feel and texture of beer and the light taste of a lower alcohol mead this beverage is the very definition of "refreshing".

Thanks to kp or was it aracauna for sharing this at the room tasting following the RFD tasting. Clear diluted cherry red with no head. Fresh berry aroma, little to no honey. Light and fruity, not overly sweet.

From bottle, post RBSG RFD tasting, enjoyed in the company of aracauna, springslicker, kp, and Hopscotch. Pours a clear bright blush red. Aroma is sweet with raspberry, honey, and lighter floral notes. Flavor is semi-sweet with a nice black raspberry flavor. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Pretty nice. My first rated true mead, so not really sure what all I’m looking for, but I guess that’s the point of the journey.

Pours a clear purple and with soda-like carbonation. A bit of a fruit soda aroma. Very little of the extected mead or honey aromas of most of the meads I’ve had.

On tap @ Brew Kettle 3/15/06: Ruby red cranberry juice appearance, slight CO2 presence from the tap. Honey aroma is very strong w/ a floral blackberry notes. Lighty alcohol presence and spicyness; pretty straight forward. Light raisiny red wine flavor w/ a bit of sourness and sulphury yeast. Blackberry fruit is evident, but subtle. Well balanced overall and carries into the finish w/ a bit of semi sweetness in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, smooth, with a bit of astringency ot keep if from being slick. Well hidden alcohol in the mouth. Nice drinkability. Not too sweet or overly fruity to make it a one glass drink

This is is like an alcoholic soda. Pink color with no head. Raspberry apple juice aroma. Raspberry flavor with a hint of alcohol in the finish. Very thin. Alcoholic soda pop.

500 mL swing top. Underwhelming aroma but nice strong honey flavor. Raspberry flavor balanced but not quite right - I think needs more acid for tartness. Carbonation too low. Decent overall melomel.

Nice low alcohol mead at 8%. I really like that aspect. There’s lots of bubbliness on the tongue, somehow, although this is a still mead. Extremely refreshing and light bodied. It’s kind of like a raspberry sprite, because it is so extremely thin. Think of a soda and you’re not far off. That’s not a bad thing, just be prepared.

As I understand it, the Redstone Meadery is one of the U.S.’s preeminent meaderies, so I was expecting something hearty and rich from them. No doubt their "Honey Wine with Vanilla Beans and Cinnamon Sticks", which I’m trying next, will fit that bill. Well done, guys.

As an aside, sampling the Black Raspberry Nectar side by side with rival Chateau Lorane’s Marioberry Mead, I have to say the Redstone wins, but they’re apples and oranges. The Marionberry is a frulty, tart wine cooler with syrupy texture. The Redstone Raspberry Nectar is extraordinarily thin for a "mead" and is lo-alcohol. Nothing in common.

Served chilled and on tap at Barley’s. Absolutely gorgeous clear red color with no head. Smells a lot like a sweet wine to me, but I’m very new to mead. Tastes sweet and lo raspberries, with just a little alcohol in the finish. Lightly carbonated.

A good hearty aroma of honey with a mild hint of black raspberry introduce this purple solution. This mead doesn’t produce a head but it does have good lacing. This rich mead is crisp and sweet with a strong taste of honey that grabs the tongue. The finish finds the flavor of black raspberry creeping in as this taste prepares itself to linger a while in the throat.
