This is our first mead released in July 2001. To-date we receive more requests and attention for Black Raspberry Nectar then for any other one of our meads! With the mouth feel and texture of beer and the light taste of a lower alcohol mead this beverage is the very definition of "refreshing".

Apple and honey nose, vague floral hints, not really berry-like. Rose colored, slight effervescent. Spritzy which detracts in this instance. Raspberry initially with a surge of honey at midpalate. Oddly bready in the finish. NIce transitions, but drinks like a wine cooler and doesn’t taste all that great.

(bottle 9/6/10). Clear rose/pink color. Spare white head. Light floral, berry, and alcohol aroma. Moderate fruity/berry/floral flavor, with light alcohol. Avg duration. Light alcohol, dry finish. Slick texture. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing.

On tap; poured a dark fruit juice red. Aroma of honey, ripe fruit and sweetness. Taste was very alcoholic; honey with a bit of fruit. Ok.

Pours purple/red with absolutely no head or trace of a head at all. Aroma is of sweet honey, raspberries, and fruit wine. Flavor is very sweet at first and moves into a tart strawberry and raspberry finish. Tastes good, but really boring.

On tap at 2011 Garden Grapes and Hops at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Purpleish red, smelled of dark berries, raspberries, blueberries, and some unprocessed raw honey. Tasted much the same, but had that berry-ish dry acidity. Loads of honey and blackberries and raspberries. Sweet and tart. OK at best.

Draught at Toronado, San Francisco. Sparkling purple red colour. Crystal clear. No head. Delicate fruity raspberry aroma. Body is quite light and the mead quite dry. Some residual sugars of course, but just enough. High carbonation level. Hints of wax/plastic.

I’m not getting a lot of aroma here. Pours grape juice with little head and leaves no lacing. Really benefits from aerating because that releases the raspberry without the cloying sweetness you expect from mead. Clean finish. At 8% it really sneaks up on you.

Bottle. Pours pink with a fizzy off-white head. Sweet aroma of raspberries and honey. Flavor was sweet and fruity with notes of honey and had a slightly sweet and dry finish

Tap at Toronado SF. Knowing this was part of the blend on Veritas 001 and Veritas 002, I was looking forward to a real treat. The pour is a clear, ultra glowing raspberry juice with some thin, white bubbles. Not looking for a head in this one. Aroma is white grape juice, some plastic off-character, cherry juice box. Taste is cherry juicy juice, sweet candies, plastic, and actually there is a dominating taste that reminds me of a very specific flavor from my childhood: In Jacksonville, FL growing up there was a place called The Landing. This was a place to dock your boat and then go shopping and eat. It turned into a sort of B-rate mall in a fast delapidating downtown. In this very odd, mostly empty "mall" was a candy store that proved quite popular. One item they used to sell was an assortment of small, clear wax cola bottles that would be filled with various colored liquids. You would take one of the wax bottles (about the size of a finger) and rip off the top "cap" of wax to drink the sugar liquid. The cherry version of the waxed sugar bottles is almost exactly the flavor you get out of Redstone Black Raspberry Mead.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear reddish pink pour with a medium white head. Aroma is honey, blackberry and raspberry. Flavor is slightly carbonated flavor with some berry character and honey with only a slight syrupy character. Semi sweet overall with a slightly dry finish.
