Cask in the Firehouse, Sowerby Bridge. Pours a deep amber with a tight creamy off white head. A very toasty malt dominated beer. Notes of biscuit and a little coffee too. Not bad.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Possibly the best bitter I’ve had, certainly in a long while. It’s hard to move me with this style, this did. Dark copper to brown, medium off white head. Aroma is yeasty, some toffee. Flavour is pretty solid, fair bit of hoppage, powdered chocolate, creamy hoppy finish with medium bitterness. Good beer.

Cask at the Magpie, chestnut red with little head, nose is woody and herbal, palate is sweet red-fruity malt with hints of chestnut and honey, and a dry herbal bitterness. An interesting twist on best bitter.

Bottle. Fluffy off-white low but lasting head. Clear dark brown body. Sweet chestnut roasted malt caramel aroma. Mild sweet dried fruits roasted malt caramel flavor with notes of pepper and honey. Low carbonation. Long sweet finish. Quite tasty for a beer with such low alcohol contents.

Hazy copper with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of toffee and biscuit, with a strong note of diacetyl. Dryish malty flavour with diacetyl and plenty of grassy and herbal hops.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Fairly standard bitter, pours a brown colour, taste is malty and caramel like. A bit of a disappointment considering how good the other Red Willow beers have been. This isn’t a bad beer, but my expectations were way too high

Cask at Hanging Bat. Pours clear amber brown, good pillowy white head. Nutty, pear drop aroma. Decent taste thought, good bitterness and digestive biscuit sweetness. Creamy texture, long bitter finish. Shame about the nose, otherwise a nice beer.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell, London, 23 Nov 2013) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, red fruit and hints of chocolate and toffee. Malty taste with red fruit, caramel, toffee, toasty malt and a balanced bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
